I've been looking for a couple of hours and can't decide if I should go with just the rocker box gasket (16800-84) or should I get or need the complete kit (91-2003). I have found the gasket for 6. bucks and also 15. and I need two. I have found a complete kit for 40. I don't have the money to do the XB conversion so if I can get away with only spending 12. I'd be happy. I don't want to get into it and find out that I should have replace all of the gaskets.

What have you all done or what would be your advice.

I could also use the Air filter gasket part number and the float bowl gasket part number.

Thanx.

Each rocker box has 4 gaskets, if I remember right (but I might not). Are you sure of which one is the leaker?

I bought the complete kit when I did mine when it was new to me. One of the new gaskets is a single gasket that replaces two of the old gaskets that were a little difficult to line up during installation. The single gasket eliminates the line up problem. Also, during installation I did manage to pinch one of the rubber ones and it was nice to have the old one to replace it with.

when I bought the kit it was $53 or $56 so $40 is a good deal. My kit had new umbrella valves and new fiber washers also.

I recommend getting the kit and doing them all.

Well there's the one around the outside edge, and then the center, and the fiber gaskets (four per rocker box) for under the allen head bolt washers up top. That's if you do just the top most gasket, but you'd need two more total if it's the bottom of the middle layer leaking. The middle layer also has an umbrella valve in it, you also get that with the kit.

Since I swapped to the xb's I can't remember as clearly, but I've got the parts book to remind me

My scanner isn't working (software I guess) but I'd be happy to make a copy of the exploded diagram from the parts book, and mail it to you in the morning.

Here is the part number I used for the complete gasket kit.

17036-91A GASKET KIT, ROCKER COVER, XL'S

You should be able to get this from any HD dealer. I paid $50.99 plus local sales tax.

Thank You for the part numbers. I just took a second look at my leaks and oil seems to be leaking between the lower rocker cover and the cylinder head. Will the complete kit include that gasket? There is no visible oil coming from the upper or middle covers.
I can get some pictures if that helps. When I bought the bike there was no signs of leakage. The seller must have really cleaned up the mess.

The kit contains EVERY gasket you would need to refresh the rocker boxes

M2marc, I wouldn't worry that the seller cleaned it up. You would have to replace the original paper gaskets anyway, sooner or later. Probably sooner.
