I noticed this as i was walking through my garage yesterday.. a couple small drips on the floor near the rear of the shock. I moved the bike forward a little and the next day saw the drips followed it. The oil seems to appear to be coming from the rear around the clamp assembly that attaches it to the swingarm. Am I doomed and need to buy a new one or is there a small chance I can get it replaced/serviced (recall?)? Do you think it'll last me through the week until i can take it in or should i avoid any more riding on it? thanks guys.

Looks like you've got a nice day tomorrow.

I'd ride it and if it's po-go'ing, a seal has ruptured and you'll need to send it to Racetech.com or buy an aftermarket shock.

Shock oil usually leaks near the front. Engine oil passes over the rear of the shock in hoses from the oil tank to the oil pump - and they rub on the frame and shock and develop leaks over the years. Is the oil dirty? Heavier than sewing machine oil? It's from the engine if either answer is yes.

my 96s1 has gpsuspension.com internals on forks and rear shock. gp rebuilt my S1's recall shock several times. A few years back I finally got a Penske from gp suspension, that took the s1's handling to the next level.

If it is rear shock oil i think there is red and clear oils in it? I can't remember but i think it was red.

typical fork oil is red
shock oil is clear unless the shock was rebuilt..

It looks more on the red side in color.. I rode it today and it didn't seem too bouncy (yet..?) - not trying to imply riding when i know something is wrong is ok.. I'll probably be looking to rebuild it if that's what it comes down to. Is that something that can only be done shipped to a specialist or will dealers work on it?

oldog re-built his i believe. If i recall it is not easy. I was going to have mine rebuilt but as fortune would have it my shock leaked at the repair shop and i got my works performance shock at cost and drop ship fee's.

When it goes bad you will know immediately.....I.E. POGO STICK!

Its not difficult, but it can be time consuming...., the parts were about 80$
fluids and new seals

there is one set of wire rings inside that are a pain...
If you can have the work done for 150$$
including the parts its a deal..
