Last saturday, I was on my way to a store near by and saw a beautiful specimen of an X1 pass by me, mind you, I've never seen another X1 on the road here, ever!. I caught up to him at the next light and was so excited that I stopped my car in the middle of the road and ran up to him : )) Turns out that he lives 3 or 4 miles from me, but the light turned green and we had to move. He took off and I got stuck at the light : ( Probably thought that I was some crazy nut!

I have been there done that. one time there were 3 buells by my house one X1 and 2 xb's. I waited by the bikes for like 10 minutes and no one came so i took off. One time after a couple of weeks of trying i was finally able track down an X1 rider. I had to stalk him to finally catch up to him. turns out he is thw X1 rider that rides past my shop everyday 18 miles away.

Couple of months back I saw an XB parked in a stripmall parking lot and waited by for 30 minutes to see the guy. My kids were in the car and they couldn't take it anymore, so had to leave!

I never see Buellistas around. I saw a Blast once, in Annapolis, and a white XB12R parked in upper Manhattan. I have a pretty lame track record for sightings. I think I would become a stalker if I sighted a tube-framed Buell.

Tubers have become a real rare sight around here. I see a Ulysses pretty frequently and the rare XB.

Almost unbelievable what i read here.

Buell : american!! motorcycles , where are they???

Did erik sell most of them in europe?

i always see other buells when i go out for a ride with my buell ( summertime) . Not a lot ,but at least between 1 and 5 ( not the same every time : ) )

Not to mention our buell meetings. Most buells i've ever seen together was on a meeting in 2004: + 230 buells ,most of them tube buells ( Can search for the pictures if some one would like to see).

Same in Japan. Same in Italy, France and the UK. Big groups of Buell Enthusiasts. The Germans are crazy for Buells, too, as you know, Dutch, coming over to the UK to buy up XB's for good money.

We have a big country, and many, many, many cruisers on HD and other. A lot of bikers here are fair weather bikers, so the bikes don't get seen a lot on the roads. What Buells are here, are spread more thinly across a big country, I guess, and a good number may be spending most, if not all their lives sitting in a garage, unused.

Chris

Do you live in the u.s or in the u.k?
Some of the dutch buell forum guys will go to the u.k in april, to meet some buell owners at the ace cafe in london.

You're right about the big country. Then i wonder why the small country's have so many buell enthusiasts.

More people with good taste : )

When you ride down the street here in Oz, People literally jump out off the sidewalk at you to get a better look. Of course it is nicer when they are female. Even the cops give you a nod! Had to say something here to bookmark this page in case I want to sell my X1.

Right after I moved, back in september, I made a quick trip to the grocery store on my X1 and was slightly intimidated by a 6'5'' guy standing by my bike when I came out the door. Turned out he had an S3T and thought he was the only Buell in the neighborhood. Was nice to chat with. But for the most part I only see one every month or less, except I picked out about 10 in the parking lot at the international bike show last month.

It is all pretty relative. here in the UK you are VERY unlikely to see another Buell on the road unless you go to a specific Buell meeting. Same in most of Europe when I have been over there (including Germany). You do very occasionally see them but it isn't exactly an everyday experience.....not like BMW R1200GS spotting anyway! Which seems to be every other bike you see on the road here in the UK.

Compared to some other manufacturers Buells were produced in very small numbers. To put it into perspective, Triumph built more bikes last year than Buell built in their entire history. Of those the majority were XB variants, and early models (S2 and earlier) were never officially imported to Europe, so it is even more unlikely that you will see a tube framer on the road.

I think the issue at hand is the size of the US.

There were 135,000 Buells produced. Let's assume half were sold domestically. That means 65,000. Let's assume 75% of all Buells built and sold in the US are still on the road (unlikely, but let's assume).

That's roughly 50,000 bikes. The United States is 3.8M square miles.

That's one Buell per 76 square miles. Now many own 2 or more Buells. Assuming you can't ride more than one bike at a time, the Buell per square mile number could be more like 200-400 square miles.

Granted concentrations will be around metropolitan areas, that's still a pretty sparce distribution of Buells.

Should I feel guilty about owning two?? LOL, Here in So. Ca. I see quite a few on nice days, People around here seem to get plenty of riding days so those days that that are cold and wet I don't seem to see as many. But they are still out there.

I wonder how many of the American Buells got cannibalized to make custom bobbers.

We don't see many tubers here in Atlantic Canada but oddly enough there are three M2s in my vintage club. They are modern bikes to us vintage Triumph riders! Local HD tech has two tubers and is a big Buell fan. Many more XBs about and not too unusual to meet one of them when out riding. I've never scene an S2 around here. Too bad...

Hogluvr,

Hold on a sec. I know a guy who lost a leg in Iraq. He was an avid Buell rider. He's looking into a Buell trike now. I'd rather see a Vet on a Buell trike, than some douchebag chop up a tuber for a chopper.

Peace out.

Onebadx1,

Sorry man, no disrespect meant. This guy was just selling some other crap choppers, I would think a real Buell enthusiast would build a nice-looking trike given a situation like your buddy's, not make it look like an Electra Glide wanna-be with a big fairing & all. Respect to your friend and you, hope he finds a way to keep on riding!

All is good. Thanks. I'm sure we'll find a way to get him back riding. Hopefully with something a little more tasteful than the pic you posted.

OBX1,

Has he looked at the automatic Can Am Spyder?

Seems like it might be a viable option for him.

I think Honda or Yamaha is coming out with an attractive model with automatic transmission.
