Ya know, I ALWAYS had the idea that an all-purple bike precluded the need to wear any gear. This confirms it!!

No gloves, no boots, thin jeans, sweatshirt.

Nice hat, though.

Anyone who'd paint their Buell like that would go to a minister's funeral dressed in feathers.

Teasing. It's tough to get in a smokey and the bandit reference these days, so I jumped on it.

Pretty sure they make purple gloves, pants, jackets, and boots though. ATPGATT.

Also, the air cleaner is perched at an odd angle.

It has a Buell race air cleaner on it that is why it is straight.

Oh, I thought it was the stock CF air filter.

Nope, the stock S2 filter has center-spaced bolts. The race air cleaner has the offset bolts like this one.

i would think someone would have seen this bike before?

I have!

I've seen this S2 a couple of times over a span of 11-12 years. I believe the first time I saw it was at an indoor wintertime Harley oriented swap meet and bike show in Milwaukee. At the time I was blown away by the amount of work that went into it. I don't think there was anything that wasn't touched in it's transformation. Unfortunately I couldn't find any of the old print pictures I took of it at that event, but if you're looking for 3-4 pictures out of a couple of thousand Buell printed pictures...worse than a needle in a haystack, at least it seemed that way.

If memory serves, the next time I 'saw' the bike was in the October 95 issue of American Rider.

Listed as the owner is Joe Haupt of Suburban Motors (H-D/Buell) in Thiensville, WI. Which is also what the signage at the bike show said.

The last time I saw the bike was at a location familiar to many of us. Let's see if you can guess where from the pics. The date was Sunday, April 2, 2006, which might give the location away, but thank goodness for digital photography! A little rough around the edges or worse for the wear than the first time I saw it, however.

A little over 13,000 miles in those 11-12 years...

If you haven't guessed by the pics, the bike was a surprise visitor during March Badness III in 2006 at TWO in Suches, GA. The owner at that time had definitely had quite a few barley pops already and was openly drinking more while his bike was parked at TWO. I talked to him a little and informed him that the bike was in a magazine many years prior. I got his address so I could mail him a photocopy of the article (but have long since lost the address) as he was not e-inclined. If memory serves he lived off 129 somewhere in Tennessee.

When I first saw the bike at the show, I was amazed by all the work that was done. Especially that it was owned by a Harley dealer and they put that kind of effort to show off the new product they had to sell. Now think back to the early to mid 90's. The granite style paint job on the frame and some of the bodywork was the 'in thing' at the time. I really think Suburban H-D/Buell did one hell of a job on trying to get the attention of the typical sportbike rider of the day.

I'm glad to see that the bike is still around and in fairly decent shape - especially considering the behavior the owner exhibited at March Badness, and apparently by his choice in 'gear' the not-so-wise choices continued (assuming it's still owned by the same guy).

TMI?

That's very cool, Brankin. Neat stuff. The details in the paint really are pretty cool.

Although...I'm seeing "chick on bike" in the OP photo. Maybe it's just me... (shrug)

1313 never ceases to amaze with the amount of Buell knowledge!

O.K. exactly how many valve stems went out of the factory in 1999 excluding special edition models? : )

Took this pic of it at the Road America in 1995. I was surprised to see one so customized at that time, since they had just come out. Hard to forget a bike like that!

Someone must have dropped it at sometime, cause the fairing paint (lightning bolts) is different.

Note the wear marks from the un-tilted aircleaner touching the underside of the tank?

The original iteration didn't have that issue.
