Author Message   Jim2 Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 12:12 am:        Today I fired up the bike and heard an unfamiliar rattle sound. Turns out the center tie-bar mount was missing the bolt on the front cylinder and the mount tab on the rear cylinder was broken in two. I guess the front bolt worked it's way out and the whole assembly was free to move and shake until it cracked the back tab. First I need to locate these parts: - 16272-98Y (Qty 1) Center Tie-bar mount - 4748 (Qty 2) Screw , 3/8-16 X 1-1/8 hex socket hd., zinc, gr. 8 - 6701 (Qty2) Washer , 3/8 X 3/4 X 1/16 zinc Question 1) Is it OK for me to continue commuting to work with no center tie-bar? This is Houston and the roads are straight. I think I can refrain from wheelies. At least I'll try. Question 2) Anybody have a serviceable Center Tie-bar mount 16272-98Y for a 99' thru 2002 M2 Cyclone they will sell/trade/give me? See the cracked mount tab for the rear cylinder. See the front mount tab hanging free in the breeze. I haven't a clue how that happened but I did check to make sure the screw wasn't broken off and it's not. I will check with Al at American Sport Bike but if ya'll can answer my questions and check your parts bins, It'll be much appreciated.   Maxbuell Posted on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 - 06:54 am:        I would not ride it. Now it's held in place at one point. I'm buying a replacement from Dean. In the mean time I'm checking front and top mounts and the bolts pre and post ride. I don't see any reason that it can't be welded. Thanks for the input, advice, and warnings of wisdom. I spoke with Al at American Sport Bike. He says he's never heard of that mount breaking before. The part is discontinued and only available new through Vintage Parts. Vintage Parts does not deal direct to individuals. HD Buell service centers can get it and Al can also get it. There are only a 28 left. I'm working with Deant to buy his because I think I'll get it quicker than buying a new one. A washer was added on top and welded to add material after the broken tab was initially welded on. That is very funny you say this. The guy that did this weld job was not very cheerful, friendly, warming, or welcoming when I walked into his shop. Of course, I walked in right at closing and he does high-end drift cars so I was not his typical customer. By the time he finished the weld job, he was smiling and cheerful.
