Coating is better for the headers. Wrap is better for your leg.

Ceramic and the small metal heat shield together should work pretty good. or you could just wrap the first 8-10 inches of the rear cylinder header.

Easiest solution is riding pants.

Ceramic all the way. Wrap does not let the heat dissipate, it crystallizes the header, which makes it bridle.

Talk to Al @ American Sport Bike. He did mine. I love it. I'm pissed that i spent the time and $$$ only to take it off (wrap)

I would go for the lighter color ceramic coatings (silver/white etc.)it should not radiate as much heat as the darker colors. That's what I have been told. I have tried a local shop with the ceramic coat and it did not last and will soon try another, but I did have one done by Jethot and it was pricey especially with the shipping but they do a TOP NOTCH JOB. Also Al at American Sport Bike has very competitive pricing as well. I also want to do the stock tuber pipe AND the muffler as I think it would just look cool in silver. I really do not like the wrap look (because of the look) but I would use it to retard the heat transfer to my body or bike components that could be harmed if I had to but a heat shield would do almost as much and look better to me. Just my thoughts. Good luck.

Jet Hot does great coatings.

Ask them about doing the INSIDE as well as the outside. It makes a huge difference.

Personally...and I had my S1W's header wrapped for a little bit...the more I see with wrap on them, the more I think it looks like crap. Maybe that comes from all the time I had to spend wrapping, cleaning, and re-wrapping a skin graft on my leg...but it looks like a bandage on a bike part. A rat-bike, or a 30s ratrod? Sure. But a clean, shiny, performance-oriented streetbike? Nope, not for me.

Another consideration - wrapping not only keeps heat in, but it also keeps ambient air from blowing across the hot pipes as you go down the road, helping to cool them as you ride. It's like putting a "jacket" on your exhaust. If you want to keep things "cool"...it does just the opposite, at least to the exhaust itself.

My M2 came with 2 headers the stock black and a ceramic X1 header. I have ran both and you can tell the difference in heat radiated on your leg. I have put almost 50,000 miles on the bike almost all with the ceramic header and it has held up quite well. Don't like the look of a wrapped header so I can't tell you if it would be better.
