the weather forecast predicted christmas wouldn't be white this year.but yesterday that changed for me.

i was just looking around on the internet when i noticed a 98 s1w for sale.

gave the (previous owner ) a call and made a appointment to have a look today.going to pick her up this weekend.

the s1 hadn`t been out a lot the last years so the owner decided to sell it.it has only driven 15.500 mls.

i`m considering to bring it back to stock

Congrats! I guess if he sold the bike with any of the original bits, it would make your job easier.
How's it ride?

It's funny, the PO of mine also opted for a CF V&H and a hypercharger. Both are options I would not have chosen.

Fahren.

Thanks.

when i asked the guy about the original bits, his answer made me sick . He threw them away a couple of month's ago because he didn't use them anymore. He had all the original parts new in box : (.

I've just made a short test drive because the was rainy, cold and the roads where slippery. But it drives very well.

Going to change a lot of things:
Appearance is going to be close to stock.
pulley's are european and will be american.Would prefer a pro series exhaust .
going to buy a set of stock 2.5 headers+exhaust.
might put on some pegasus covers.

Don't whant to use any aftermarket parts on it's appearal

If it is a true S1W (sure looks like it to me, great find!), you already have a 2.5" header. The only difference between this one and the race header is, the race header is longer and has the outlet facing rearward, not across like the stock one (the primary runners are also matched-length...but the outlet is the best visual cue).

The rear hugger looks like a Buell accessory fender, so if you can't find an original hugger with the license mount you could still consider that one "original".

If you DO find an original hugger, keep in mind the Euro huggers had an extra metal brace/support back there, under the fender, for the heavier license plates. Make sure you get that support bracket before you mount a tag! Cracking that gorgeous piece of CF...would suck.

If you need any tips or detail shots from an original bike, just let me know : ) I have a Penske shock, and a Buell race kit (header/muffler/intake), a steering damper, different turn signals, and a clear taillight lens...but that's it. (the Corbin seat in the photo is on sometimes...stock Euro seat is on most times).

Hm. I should look at my photos before I post lol. This shot still shows the bar-end mirrors I had on it for a while. Now, the bike has 1125CR mirrors with the LED turn signals, and no signals by the headlight. It also has some little carbon-fiber stickers in the frame recesses above the rear isolators, and the Pegasus frame plugs on the isos. And, my right thigh heat shield is a Buell CF accessory piece instead of stock black plastic.

Very nice s1w .

I could be wrong , but aren't the european headers different than the u.s headers? As far as i know the european clowns changed al the 2.5" headers for the 2". That's why al the after market "european" exhausts have the lose elbow piece with springs to hold it in place.

I know about the differences on a pro series exhaust and a stock one. Have pro series on my x1 and love it.that's why i would like to have one on the s1w

Before i bought the s1w , i checked the VIN number at a local harley dealer. They told me it's a true s1w : ).

You're right about the rear hugger,it's a Buell accessory cf fender.just like the cf frontfender,cf heat shield, cf pulley cover and cf belt guard.

The previous owner did ad some nice mods on this buell.

Thanks for the offer to help me.

Dutch,

You are correct, HDI (Euro, etc.) S1W's had 2" header and muffler.

SWEET S1W!

Good point on the Euro header; I thought that was only on the XB's (all XB's have XB9 headers in Europe; smaller primaries).

Are they hard to find?

Found my s1w with pure luck. Wasn't even searching for one till i noticed it in a ad between some buell parts.
At first i didn't want to buy it because i was searching for a x1 blue racing stripe. But the s1w kept going true my mind (always liked them). When i gave it a second look, i thought damn that's a nice s1w, don't see them to often over here and i do own a x1 already.
Gave the owner a call and when't over to take a look. When the garage opened i was sure this buell would go to my garage : ) .

Picked it up today and it sure looks nice in my garage : ).

As with most things, I would really like to have a bone stock, beautifully restored, smooth-running machine with bread box and stock exhaust and all the rest, right next to a full-blown hoodlum S1W, with X1 forks and swing arm, a fork brace or weld, Force intake, race or other, similar exhaust, and a Penske or similar shock.

I hesitate to make wife/mistress references, but there it is.

And speaking of the shock, maybe if you are restoring it, you could get another type of coil-spring shock with a custom white-colored coil to emulate the true original look.

Dutch, great looking S1W. To me, even when they are not in stock trim the S1W white on white is the best looking.

the s1w is going to be a project.it will be brought to stock, but i`m not in a hurry.first i need to find the stock parts.hope to find them for a reasonable price. first thing i like to change is the front fender ,turn signals and aircleaner.

i`ve just finished my x1 and i can tell you it was a hell of a job. my x1 is far from stock, but i`ve build it exact how i wanted it.will change some last bits the upcoming year(s) : )

the thread about the bone stock s1 gave me the idea to bring a buell back to stock.i`ve never seen a stock s1 over here (europe).when i saw the picture of that stock red s1,i knew i wanted one like that.the funny thing is that a lot of buell owners made something very special from they`re buell by personalizing them, but for my opinion the stock buells will become rare and will be the special ones in the end.

s1wl.

great looking s1w.
about the duo seat.was it stock or should it be bought separate?
i was lucky that my s1w came with both the seats.

would like to thank everyone for the positive reactions

OK, so we can make this thread a love-fest for white SiW's. Here's mine with twin tail, still has hypercharger on it. Now that I look at this shot again, I had better think about polishing those headers:

I bought mine in August 1997 with the solo seat. Later in 1998 or 1999 they started making twintail (duo) seats, so I bought the kit. I still have the solo seat which is going on next year, my wife can not ride anymore.

You're the first owner from that great looking s1w?
Sorry to read you're wife can't ride anymore.

You wrote that the vance&hynes and hypercharger are options you wouldn't have chosen. Are you going to bring them back to stock?

There were sixteen potential color combos available - four frame colors:

White
Black
Nuclear Blue
Titanium (silver)

And there were four body colors:
Ice White Pearl
Carbon Black
Molten Orange
Billet Metallic (silver).

Wheel colors either matched the frame, or were the polished PM wheels (factory option).
