i am doing some minor mods to my x1. I bought these carbon fiber tank guards and they did not come with hardware or installation instructions. The right air intake side was a breeze that only required 2 drilled holes and a couple of screws. The left side however has me puzzled. No place to drill and screw. If anybody has experience in putting these on any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I contacted the manufacturer and their response was double sided 3m tape or gorilla glue. I cant decide if they were having fun at my expense or being serious.

the left guard needs a metal piece that go`s around the frame.it has a hole on the place where the bolt should go in.when you put the bolt in it tightens enough around the tube frame to hold it in place.

going to make a picture from it because my english isn`t good enough to explain exactly what i mean

This does help, i have that frame piece already form the stock parts i took off. Purpony, thanks for the offer to mail me the plug i pm'd my address to you.

How about the front of the guard? if i just use the one screw this will leave the front a little loose with a lot of play.

got your PM and found the extra part on my desk this morning... Ill mail it out to you.

As for the front...I just have the one screw up front and mine is tight and does not move.

just put a helicoil in it for you. This is it. It fits in large hole from the backside and then the tank insert bolt holds it in place. I but a rubber grommit on the back side of the tank inserts for a little cushion between the frame.

see pic below

Purpony, you drew it, or grew it? I had seen something on TV where they make something out of some kind of plastic, looked like something from a sci-fi movie appearing like magic from a liquid!

i did both... I drew it in Solidworks... and then grew it in one of my RP SLA machines.... it does start out as a liquid and is laser(UV) cured...

here is a youtube video of the process...

To secure the front i started with the idea of another screw but then had a wild idea of Zip strip. It actually works great. What is everyone;s opinion of looks?
