I don't have #250 but I do have all the same numbers I've got CF #205 of 250. Started a thread a long time ago to find where they (CF) were and (for those who like the limited editions) 1313 gave up some great info about the japanese carbon fiber editions. Basically the same as the others but had a different pegasus in the weave of the windscreen and had white frames and wheels. Let me try and find that somewhere. |

Thanks for the link Kyrocket. So #1-#9 never got built?? Seems weird doesn't it?? Maybe 1313 or Court could explain why or if this was just common production test vehicle and then sent to the crusher? (Message edited by Red93stang on November 28, 2011) |

wow I missed this thread! The X1R and X1M's have "ss" in the VIN numbers. i don't know if the 1999 bikes have it or not. Then I found that there are less of the 2000 X1 editions than what the gas caps say. I don't know if it is miss-information or not. K |

I have seen 3 different Millenniums on craigslist recently ,PA,DE,MD/DC I have one already, its just surprising that with under 400 in the states 3 are for sale in my region. |

My sneaking suspicion is that the numbers may vary significantly. I think the "gas caps" were a marketing thing. Is the VIN differentiated in anyway? I don't have (I don't think) 1999 Build Sheets but am going to have to dig through some old Excel files and see. I'm wondering how the bikes were designated. Do they show as "special edition" or something when the dealer runs the VIN? |

court limited edition buell VIN`s do show up as special edition when when the dealer checks them. two dealers checked the VIN from the buell i wasn`t sure of being a racing stripe.both of them told me it`s a factory racing stripe #81 of 350 |

Excellent. I'll do some digging about. Typically what happened was marketing contracted with someone (as in the case of the "Signature Series" S2) to make the unique part, in this case the gas cap. Sometimes it's possible to see if there were any left overs or if the original paperwork, drawings and program files (correspondence, prototypes, orders and delivery tickets) can be found or as just sitting in someone's garage. The story of the Badwebber who ACCIDENTLY stumbled upon all the S2 Signature Series stuff is one of the most amazing. The reason I never say never. |

Babired, or anyone else that knows this, You said that a X1 w/ a SS vin # may be a special/limited edition? Just a couple weeks ago I bought my first Buell, a 2000 X1. Well the SS sounded familiar when I read your post so I went to look. Sure enough, it starts w/ SS. Does this mean Its "special"? thanks, Jeff |

I'm pretty sure every X1 will have SS in the VIN. Just like S1's had SS and all S1W's had YS. I don't recall any special editions having any differentiation in their VIN's - but I'm not 100% positive... 1313 |

I don't know all 3 of my limited editions had SS in the vin but the ss was in the middle. Then when researching it someone told me the ss means they are limited editions. It could be miss-info since the only tubers I have owned were the X1M (2 of them) and the X1R. |

I just went and checked my neighbors '97 S1 and his VIN also had the SS. So, Im guessing that my bike isnt that "special", oh well. |

okay on the good side they're all SS's! On the down side what makes the special editions special besides the color schemes?, Gas caps? |

Um...pretty much. No mechanical or software changes or anything like that. Cosmetics only (pretty cool cosmetics...but that's it). AFAIK the last (only?) "special edition" that included physical/mechanical differences was the S1/S1W - although some would consider them to be completely different models. S1: lightning motor, small tank, SS VIN. S1W: thunderstorm motor, Manta tank, 4 frame colors available, 4 body colors available, solo tail with "euro" seat and no passenger pegs, YS VIN. |
