Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, it's time again for the Cafe Desmo bike show event at Pro Italia in Glendale, California. The event is in two weeks: October 9th, 2011.

This year's event will have a Buell and American Superbike class, in addition to the traditional Italian bikes one would expect.

According to the website, Erik Buell will be one of the judges and an 1190RS will be on display:

http://www.proitalia.com/cafedesmo/

It would be great if we could get a decent turnout of Buells at the event. Entrance to the show is free this year but, don't get any ideas about winning a trophy.

I'm bringing at LEAST the RS1200 and S2 and if I can find room on the trailer, the S3 is coming as well. The judges will simply fall to their knees and weep in the presence of such beautiful hardware, they will stop the judging and beg me to take the trophies away. Don't agree? Bring it on!

That's about a mile from my house.

I will try to remember and show up - though I won't be on a Buell. As most of you know, I'm 'between Buells' currently.

I'll probably ride the '70 FLH so the judges have an example of the exact opposite of "hi performance, great handling and excellent brakes". Unless someone steps up and buys it before that.

I'll dig around the shop and see if I have any more RS bits for Greg.

Might even get Penny (the spousal unit) to go, as she hasn't seen Erik since that funny scene at the Love Ride MANY years ago.
Remind Court to tell you, as he was the instigator of the whole fiasco.

Al

Chuck needs to bring that Orange/Blue S1 out for the day. Sparky's S1 may not be as pretty as it once was but, it's on its second lap around the odometer. That counts for a bunch. There have to be others.

Greg I will try and talk Tim into going, He has the S1W in the Molten Orange and Nuke Blue, kinda rare. His bike is a little cleaner than mine, And has all the extra's too. Hope to see all you guy's there. I would love to get a picture with Erik and my brother with the twin Orange Buell's.

Sweet. You should enter yours as well. I have no clue what they're looking for as far as judging goes. I'm going to clean the bikes and bring them. No idea if 'stock' is good, if tasteful mods make a difference, whatever.

If I knew there was going to be a large Buell turnout, I'd bring the RS and call it a day. The S2 is kinda' cool next to the RS because it's immediate pre and post Harley. Once those two are there, the S3 makes sense to complete the lineage. They're interesting to see side-by-side.

Honestly, bringing three is a feat and even two is a PITA. My 3.8L minivan is going to struggle with 1400 lbs of Buells on a 900 lb trailer.

They invited the Buell riders along last year as Erik Buell and the Thunderbolts(partially) were one of the bands playing.
It was a great turnout and a well planned ride. CHP closed down intersections so the all the riders could get through without stopping. Erik is a very cool and humble guy. Wish I could make it this time.

I would be honored to be in the presence of that bike. Amazing...really. I saw and saved the other pictures of it.

Just a reminder 'bump': the show is tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be 78 and sunny.

Thanks for pointing that out again, Sparky. I guess last year had a fee for entries in the bike show (not visitors).

Are you going to be there?

Well, the S2 and S3 are out. The trailer's tires were dry rotted and I can't get the new ones to seat. It's going to be the Westwind alone on the single-rail trailer.

Damn, and I blew the whole afternoon polishing the S2.

Had a great time today at the meet, Once again Erik was all about signing everything people put in front of him. How does he do it????? We also had a great group of Buell's show up and all of them were showing proud. I also was able to get the shot I wanted to get last year at Newcomb's Ranch but just didn't get it done, A shot of me and my brother Tim, our bike's and best of all Erik too. All in one picture, The bikes ran great all the way up and back and the people were the best part of it, Well almost. Some of the bikes there are just amazing. Great times, And thanks to Erik for coming out West again, Great guy I tell ya!!!!

Great shot you got there, Chuck! Too bad your brother was busy staring at the girl in the KTM booth.

I got a couple of choice shots and a pretty good one of you. I've got to resize them before I can post.

Again: a big thank you to Sparky for this one. I didn't want to bug Erik again after he signed my bike. He had people lined up for autographs and I didn't have a picture of the two of us in front of the Westwind. Sparky kept pushing me to ask him despite all the others. All the preparation and trouble was worth it for this one photo. Thanks, Sparky!

There were a LOT of cool bikes. Wandering the show was only half of it. As always at these type of events, the parking area was easily as entertaining as the show itself. Man, there was some exotic stuff out there and vintage bikes that had no class to officially enter: old british stuff, BMWs, etc, etc. My favorite in the parking area was a Kawasaki KR-1: a Japanese grey-market 250cc two-stroke twin in a sportbike chassis. 250 pounds and 55 HP!

You're welcome! And congratulations on the medal (see video) to you and micro-machine (I think that's his handle).

OK, I made a slideshow of selected pix featuring five generations of Buells, Erik Buell Racing machines, Sportys and other exotica.
.
Notice how everyone around Erik seems to be smiling?

Oh . . .if you only knew . . . Save that photo and "remind me to tell you". . . you won't believe the story behind this. Perhaps one of the most amazing Buell stories in the last . . oh, 20+ years.

Also . . I am loving the TEAM ELVES shirt in the background.

Court, I'm here to remind you, LOL, I need to hear the story. Yea Tim has a nice collection of shirts from his years of time on the salt, Really nice stuff. My S1 and his S1WL in the photo (twins) really like to spend time on the road together. Almost as much time as we do, LOL. The sound they make while running side by side is just awesome. Hopefully I'll have the new to me S1WL ready for next years show, Plan on doing a complete restoration and re-build and adding a few of the bolt on goodies that were around at the time. Nice to see the guys that were close by show up and support the event, The guys at Cafe Desmo put on a great event for all of us. You should come out this way next year Court, Its fun. Ride safe guys, Chuck.

Penny and I finally got there about 10 minutes before it was thoroughly over.

Famous philosopher once said - "Timing's everything, dude!"

Got to see Greg and that purdy RS of his.

We did get a couple of minutes with Erik, and Penny got her photo signed of her on her S2T.

That 1190RS is beautiful! It is up on a stand in the Pro Italia Ducati shop and has drool stains all around on the carpet. They apparently are now an Erik Buell Racing dealership!

Court - if you are around next year for this show, it's about a half mile from my house.
You could do the granddad thing and see the show, too. "Win-Win" as they say.
