Cycle gear has some pretty cheap windproof longjohns, nothin beats the wind like leather though!

A bike Rain-suet over electric-jacket,with thermostat, Motorcycle-gauntlet-insulated gloves. You can use rain-suet all year and use electric-jacket in cold and pack both and not take much room. For head which you loose 90% of body heat a barkla made of fleece. Rain motorcycle-over-boots.

I like the aerostich warm grips. They are easy to use and you can swap them from bike to bike with ease. I have tried heated gloves and they are a pain in the ass. And if you use them a lot they break. I got sick of sending back my gerbing heated gloves for the life warranty of the wiring. Here is the link for the warm grips: http://www.aerostich.com/a-to-b-utilities/rider-co mfort/heated-grips-accessories/aerostich-warm-wrap -grips.html

Gerbings jacket liner. Lightweight, plugs into the bike, wear under anything. Pricey to buy-in...but I've had mine for half a dozen seasons with no issues.

30 degrees, and I turn it DOWN because I'm too hot.

I've also got it paired with heated grips, and either Alpinstars insulated gloves or heated gloves. 30s I go heated; 40s and up, Alpinstars.

Not worth halfassing it. Go electric, you'll never look back!

I agree, electric is great.

But if you can't afford it there are always end of season sales on bicycle tights and jersey's that are windproof and generally have some kind of insulation to them. Used as a base layer they are low bulk and keep your body heat close. Similar to what Josh mentioned above (windproof long john's @ Cycle Gear)... those look to be a pretty good deal actually.

I especially like them when wearing business casual for training days and want to ride, really helps keep my legs comfortable. Can't always wear jeans or chaps, or whatever, you know?

Leather is a great wind block, worn with fleece underneath you can maintain a lot of body heat.

If you are really on a budget, you can make your own heated vest.

Keep your body core warm, and the rest will stay warmer.

you always got to keep your "core" warm.

http://www.ibaestore.com/products.asp?MainCatID=2& CategoryID=48&

electric vests are inexpensive, keep your core warm, and with the proper layers, can keep you comfortable well below freezing.
I often ride in below freezing temps, and am always comfortable...

Leather is a good windblock...but it magnifies whatever the ambient temp is. Hot weather, leather gets HOT. Cold weather and it turns to ice.

Modern textiles are just as good for windblocking, and they stay temperature-neutral to boot. They also have abrasion-resistance to rival the best leathers.

Just layer up -I have nice all-season all-weather gear, but I still do the "layer up" method with stuff a lot of the year, even in Dec and Jan here in upstate NY.

Thermals, undershirt, long sleeve shirt, hoodie, leather jacket = warm down to about freezing (haven't ridden much below it).

For pants I wear a pair of flanel lined jeans with thermals and thick socks.

From the description they're almost exactly like the bicycle gear I suggested previously. I still need to get down to the store and check them out...

Layer up- rain suit outer layer, some type of scarf for your neck, and I put on rubber medical gloves then my riding gloves. Its amazing how latex gloves can cut the wind and help keep your hands warm.

look on ebay for used snowmobile gear. I rode to work this morning 45 mins in 39 degree weather and i was nice and toasty. I wear my Polaris snowmobile leather jacket and pants. I also have a fleece neck cover and my snowmobile helmet with breath deflector and heated shield (no fogging). Also have a set of City X hand guards.

I love my smowmobile racing gloves. Warmest non-heated gloves out there, I'd bet. And it's true - they would surely be warmer with some wind-deflecting hand guards.

Last spring I got tired of wearing my long johns to work, and bought a Tourmaster Flex jacket and pants. I think the total price was about 250 out the door at Bob's Cycle. The jacket has a water repellent removable outer shell, armored mesh under that, and Zip out thermal liner thermal liner. The pants have armor, a thermal liner, and zip off panels to expose the mesh. You can wear that suit from 25-95 degrees. The only complaints are with the shell on there aren't many vents for cooling, but here in MN, I ride a lot more with the shell on than off. I also use a fleece hood to block the wind on my neck and chin.

I fought and fought with ways to keep warm. Finally, I broke down and bought a Gerbing liner and gloves. I have ridden in below freezing weather and stayed toasty.

Lovin my Frank Thomas gear for commuting duty. XTI2 jacket and pants from the CycleGear clearance rack for less than $100.

Pants big snuff to wear over my jeans or put the liner in wear as is. Jacket with a hoodie or the liner and I am toasty warm in the mornings.

I wear my rainsuit pants over pants and polar fleece -- keeps the wind at bay -- If you're going to go electric
i believe a vest is the number on item -- keep your core warm and the extremities will stay toasty --
