Can someone out there in Buell-Land measure a STOCK front shock from the widest part on top of the tube(not from the nuts or bolts on top) to the center of the axle shaft. It must be under no compression. And someone else (or of course the same person if possible) measure an M2L. I thought I had this info but can not find it. Thanks.

Anything? I have an M2L I just thought I would not have to jack it up. Stock M2 length?

From the top of the tube as if the top cap would be off to the front axle shaft center. Thanks for the reply also.

I've got a short shock sitting on the floor of my garage right now but I'm unclear on what you are asking as well.

When you say "front shock" do you actually mean front forks? I've got an unladen set of those laying in the garage atm too...I think... might have thrown them out actually... since the upper legs are a little bit uhm... bent...

Anyway, I imagine the measurement would be pretty darn close.

Or did you get what you need already, I'm a bit unsure and have been at the rum as I was removing my TT's fan for cleaning. So maybe I shouldn't be posting at all. Hmmmm...

I wonder if Joe still has the low forks for his M2 laying about his garage, or if he swapped the set-up out with another Bueller? Did you know Ratbuell's M2 used to be a Low model?

I hope he doesn't mind me referring you to him:

Yea I am talking about the front forks (tubes w)slides) and I did finally measure a M2L (at least what someone said they were)and came up with 27 5/8. I just am wondering, so if I were to order a set I would be able to tell the difference between an M2 an M2L. I am measuring from the center of the front axle shaft hole up to the top of the tube without the top cap in the measurement. I thought I had the info but can not find it. Thanks for any help.

The parts book helps to explain the difference between the M2 and the M2L. Some of the parts are the same and some are different between the M2 and the M2L. Below I list ALL of the differences between the M2 and M2L according the the 2002 Cyclone M2/M2L Parts book 99572-02Y

First a list of only the differences for the front shocks:
M2
FRONT FORK ASM., left 46032-99Y
FRONT FORK ASM., right 46033-99Y
SPRING (2) 46037-99Y
GUIDE BUSHING(2) 46083-97YA
SLIDER TUBE(2) 46147-99Y

M2L
LOW FRONT FORK ASM., left J0121.01A4
LOW FRONT FORK ASM., right J0122.01A4
SPRING (2) J0113.01A4
GUIDE BUSHING(2) J0112.01A4
SLIDER TUBE(2) J0107.01A4

Here is a list of all the other differences:
M2
REAR SHOCK ASM. K0431.9
SIDE STAND, designer black L0167.9YT
SIDE STAND, blazing orange L0167.9YAU
SEAT, with anti-abrasion tape M0086.LA

M2L
REAR SHOCK ASM. K0410.01A4A
SIDE STAND, low, designer black L0167.01A4YT
SIDE STAND, low, blazing orange L0167.01A4YAU
SEAT, low profile with anti-abrasion tape M0086.01A4A

I believe that the "FRONT FORK ASM." is the complete front fork half (left or right) that includes the SPRING, GUIDE BUSHING, SLIDER TUBE and all the other parts that I did not list that are common between the two.

The SLIDER TUBE is the smaller diameter main top tube. The GUIDE BUSHING is the bushing that goes on the upper end of the slider tube.

The parts book only list the whole rear shock assembly and not just the front bracket (I always thought it was just the bracket that was different).

The 99' parts book doesn't list anything for M2L. I guess they didn't have the low that year. The front fork part numbers are all the same for the 99' M2 vs. the 2002 M2. The side stand, rear shock asm., and the seat have different part numbers for the 99' vs. 2002 M2.

My 99/00 Service manual doesn't mention an M2L at all. I guess they didn't have an M2L in 2000 either.

That's correct on the model year for the Low, it was not offered in 99-00, and I'm not sure it was a 01 model either, but that's my faulty memory. I'll consult an '01 sales brochure when I go down to the garage to work on my XB.

27.5 inches (from Jim's previous post) should be standard length then.

Just checked, M2L is not offered until 2002, FWIW.

NO, I have a 2001 M2L. They first came out in 2001. And thanks Jim2 but I also have all the parts books and the differences. I just wanted to verify the actual different lengths for a quick check between the 2 front ends if I was going to buy one.

You say you measured an M2L at 27 5/8". My regular M2 measured 27 1/2". Somethings wrong.

I bought a spare front end awhile back and it was supposed to be from a stock M2L and I just put it off to the side. Now I am questioning it. I have an M2L but will have to Lift it to take the weight off it and measure that because I know that is an M2L front end I just want to measure it unsprung (with the weight off it). This is so I have a frame of reference for the future. I think I got ripped off. DARN (and not the first time or regretfully the last). Great life so far and this would not even be a pebble in the road of life. I'll let you know when I get some help to jack it up and measure it.

Yo Bert....I didn't rip you off, if you're referring to the ones I sold you awhile back. Those came off of my stock 2002 M2L when I tore it apart to put X1 showa's on it.

>>> You say you measured an M2L at 27 5/8". My regular M2 measured 27 1/2". Somethings wrong.

Are you certain that you measure exactly as Bert described, forks fully extended to the stops, from top of tube absent end cap to center of axle hole? Yours is a 2000 model. It's fork setup may be different.

No, I think I did it wrong. I did not have it fully extended, just no extra compression. Assembled bike sitting on the ground. Sorry Buell_bert, I don't have the means to accomplish what you need.

OK, First of all I did not get RIPPED OFF. My Son and Daughter stopped off tonight and lifted the front end of my (totally stock) M2L (except for the gas and oil) and it did measure 27 and 5/8 inches. Second of all Brinnutz I cannot remember whom I got the front end from but it would seem to be from you. Thanks also and SORRY for any problems or inconvenience. 27-5/8 would be the measurement that I need. Anyway what is the measurement of a stock M2 anyway? I am sure it would be something others would be interested in. Oh and it (the M2L)did measure 27" with the weight on the front end. As always THANKS ALL for your help, as that is, as you help me you also help others.

Bert, no worries man. I just checked my emails and you are who I sold them to. I keep a record of everything I sell and gmail allows for easy searching.

Okay, I though the Low model was -1" suspension and the rest of the low came from less seat foam.

Measurement of my slightly modified (bent) standard forks verify this as I'm getting roughly 28 5/8"

Hey THANKS Littlebuggles. You must be awful strong to bend those fork tubes. Hope nothing got hurt. I really appreciate your help and all the others. Yes the M2L was the front tubes, seat and rear shock. It was available in 2001-2002. Thanks again. This will not be the last question I will have.

You're welcome. Sorry it took so long to get the answer settled. So sag is roughly 1" instead of 3/4" on Jim's bike, I wonder if that's the springs settling, or if they were just sprung a little soft to start?

So besides the bent fork tubes? Couple cracked ribs, and I racked my junk a bit going off the front of the bike... that hurt enough that it took me a day to feel the ribs

But the insurance paid out, fortunately the driver was insured, so I did the repairs myself, put inverted forks on my bike, and paid the hospital bills out of pocket when the baby came... which was great since I was an unemployed student at the time!

I am sure the sag is just from the weight of the bike. And it could vary slightly. And I know what it feels like as I had someone pull out in front of me doing 50 back in 74. So your back to 100% or close? Thanks for the help.
