Butch, Good job on saving something that might be considered scrap and bringing it back from the brink. Originals are getting very rare and now that guy has many more good miles ahead of him.

I scrubbed my headers up but nowhere near as good as that. There has to be some trick to fitting these headers,I've had 2 goes already and will have to do it again soon because the rear flange is starting to fart again.
Can anyone enlighten me about the technique?
I don't like the way the retaining ring on stock Buell racing headers work.

Doubling up on the retaining rings has always worked well for me.

Because they are stainless steel the headers discolour very quickly ,it only takes a thumb print left on them when you fit to leave a very ugly mark when heated. Sadly there isn't much info on fitting the headers in the manual. Would be easy enough to double up on the retaining rings and it makes sense too. Thanx. I have tried both types of flange gaskets and am not any wiser as to which one is better?

Book says :- Fitting Exhaust Header
NOTE
Muffler hardware must be tightened before fitting exhaust header hardware.
Install new exhaust port gaskets (5)
and exhaust clamp retaining rings (4).
2. Slide exhaust header clamps (3) over ends off exhaust header (1),
3. See Figure 2·142. Slide exhaust header under frame by positioning as shown, threading oxygen sensor wire under frame.
Blah Blah Blah.
Not very explicit.

Allen The only thing I see you have trouble with is not useing two retainer rings each side like Rick said.I polish mettle all the time and if you don,t it hard to maintain! Some polish many Don,t!!!! I do!!!

Sigh. I need a Set of these as well. My KT systems pipe is on the way out. Its cracking all over the place and my patches just make the cracks expand elsewhere.

You must not have installed it correctly for it to keep cracking like that.

S3 is the best looking Buell, that's real nice.

Trying to convince myself to start polishing my headers, but don't want any downtime, guess I need to get another header, eh?

Brinnutz- Na. Its installed correctly. Its just an old pipe. Too thin and its rusted all over the interior wall.

Everytime I tighten with the correct procedures. tightening from the cylinders down. However at this point my welds have probably warped the pipe, and I'm sure that accellerates the cracking more.

I bought a stock set of headers plus muffler and a stock ECM off ebay for $75.00 au.($75 AU = $77 US)
IT was pick up only . Man It was difficult to hold back the euphoria. The Guy bought the bike new and put a race kit on it, eventually he ditched the DDFI, put the Race Ecm in a box and put a carbie on it.
He is going to look for it for me.
Some people wouldn't have a clue.
