Well Stripe'r is BLEEDING all over the parking lot here at work. I found a piece of the primary cover gasket hanging LOW broken off. Guess I ll fill her up with a bit of 10-40 wt oil and limp her the 25 miles home. I ll update this weekend on how my first operation goes on my beullitiful baby (sorry Neil, she is sick). | ||

the primary gasket is a snap to replace. shouldn't take someone more than 2 hours to fix (and that is someone that doesn't do a ton w/ engines). | ||

Don't know if you want to do that. Once that gasket lets go like that (been there, done that) you can very easily soak down that rear tire (been there, done that, did a 360 spin in an intersection to prove it). Did not drop the bike, but it was all luck and adreneline. Make sure you use the new metal gaskets to replace it. Cometic makes very nice ones, and I think the new harley ones are pretty nice. If you can get something to catch the oil when you pop the primary cover, it would not be an awful job to do in a parking lot. Use allen wrenches, good judgement, and hit everything with the torque wrench when you get home. You would need to run to the store and get allen wrenches (cheap), Mobil 1 gear oil (cheap), loktite blue (cheap), smaller slotted head screwdriver, and the new gasket. If you don't have the new style primary chain tensioner, it's a good time to upgrade that as well. |
