Or do there seem to be a lot of problems surrounding 99 X1s as of late?

I dunno about anyone else but my '99 X1 is running like a train.
I did c250 miles on it yesterday without as hitch.
The only problem i have had has been the propensity for it to wear out tires.
Mine gets used c3-5 days/week.
No problems.
(It'll probably break down on the way to work tomorrow)

Not mine.In over 11 years ownership the only issue ever was with the Starter interlock.I didn't disable it,i repaired it.
Penske-izzed now,an outstanding machine with none of the fueling hiccups some had

I should also state where i WAAAYYYYYyy over maintain it

My '99 X1 is running Crazy Strong. Last week I noticed the exhaust stud in the front cyl. was broken off in barrel. Had it fixed in a day.

Not any problems here.

Previous owner wasn't as picky as me with the maintenance. Bought it NOV 2010 with 13,150 miles on it. As of today, I've got 18,126 on her. Went to Rockford IL to see a buddy. Rarely in 5th. All back roads.

I have recently just puchased my 99 x1 I ride her everyday cause I don't own a car. Put 3000 miles on here in the last 2 months, only problem iv had was a random stall out about 2 weeks ago, hasn't happened since.

Picked up a '99 X1 last fall, needed some minor TLC. It had 10.5K on it, runs like a champ. I have a hard time deciding between my Uly and X1 when going to work or for a cruise.

Weren't a lot more X1's made than any other tube-framed Buell?

Could be just the numbers.

Maybe it's just that people are buying all those old neglected X1's?

There's one in my area that's been for sale for nearly a year now. Just parked all that time, you know the seals and gaskets are going to be spewing fluids like crazy once it starts getting some use again.

I vote with littlebuggles on this one.
I think it's a combination of coincidence, reclamation of old, neglected X1's by new Buell enthusiasts & the fact that the bikes themselves ain't getting any younger.
Since the demise of Buell more & more of us are doing our own maintenance & repair.

I agree with Fahren and Littlebuggles. The X1 was the most produced tuber, so you are more likely to see issues crop up. Also it seems like a ton are being bought and sold as of late.

99 X1 no spark

99 X1 suddenly looses power and dies when riding...

couple of examples. Seemed like there were a lot of 99 X1 thread problems there for a little while.

Not bagging on X1s at all. Would love to have one. Just was wondering if there was a trend or coincidence.

I have noticed that as well, and briefly wondered if there was a pattern, but just shrugged it off as Chris said, "I think it's a combination of coincidence, reclamation of old, neglected X1's by new Buell enthusiasts & the fact that the bikes themselves ain't getting any younger."

A lot of new X1 owners are posting here, and a lot seem to be changing hands too. Combination of low cost of purchase, with many unused or extra items being cleared out of garages due to the economy I imagine.

What do you think Jeremy, are you seeing other patterns here as well?

I am one of those new Buell owners. Picked up my 01 x1 last April. Only "problem" has been snapped front iso bolts. I have worked on it plenty but it has been mostly elective, not required. Have I openly admitted I love my Buell yet? : ) I don't mind and actually enjoy working on my bike. And thanks to great people on this sight I don't think I will encounter a problem that can't be solved. So... Thanks... And I love my tuber!

The thing about people posting is that they don't post when their bikes are running good. I have a 99 S3 and after I took off the Power Commander and switched back to stock exhaust, it has always run like a champ, two years. No problems at all.

Didn't know if there was a pattern or not. I figured the compendium of all tuber knowledge would know.

In the BB&D section, there are known issues for 06's and it appears some for 07's as well.

Didn't know if there were similar model and year issues with the 99 X1.

Ft_bstrd,

Could that be left field ???

110,772.1 miles as of the last ride and "i" have not taken the top end off yet ...

Have 57,064.3 miles on my second isolator
which is the Harley-Davidson PN 16207-79C which was in the BUELL L0501.T ISOLATOR KIT ...

I don't think it's left field at all. '99 was the first model year for the X1, that in itself should lend people to expect some glitches that would be worked out in later model years. Transmission is the same as all the other models, but the cam/motor/injection combo were new for that year.

Many similarities to the '99 S3 models though...

Littlebuggles,

"i" was referring to the word "compendium" ...

In the 2000 model year 2nd gear was up-dated which made 2nd and 3rd gear a little closer in ratio as in a close ratio gear box ...

From 1999 to 2007 the throttle position sensor had to be re-set by the Dealer or you bought the box to do it yourself ...

In 2008 which was 9 years later that was corrected !!!

I can say for sure that Britcri10's X-1 is a beautiful example of the X-1 species.

Chris, if you ever have the need to get rid of it...let me have first dibs, please.

Getting an X-1 is on my bucket list.

There's at least three or four for sale in the classifieds here, right now. Pick your coast, and the's at least one in the middle too.

Mine is running fine. TOO fine.

I've been spending all my time with my VW instead because the X1 doesn't need anything more than oil changes.

I scared my younger brother with it recently, though, which was fun. Went from 75 to 110 in like... 2 seconds with him on the back.

I think it's really that people only post when things are going wrong. And that makes sense. If you saw all of these posts that simply said, "So, my bike is awesome and problem free." wouldn't you get bored of reading the forum?
