I have a 99 X1 with a vance and hines exhaust. I just got this bike and the ECM needed to be mapped for the exhaust. I got the cable and ecm spy. I backed up my fuel mapping and eeprom, then loaded the race mapping. The bike wouldnt start and back fired. I decided to put it back the way it was. But now the bike still wont start. I see error codes about the fuel pump grounded out, head temp sensor grounding out.
Any ideas where to go with this? I need to get a new set of plugs, it seems like they might have fouled out. they are black now.

Do a TPS reset and see if that helps. The plugs probably got fouled due to multiple starting attempts.

I did that to my S3 but was fine after I loaded the back up. What ECM do you have?

I ended up finding out that the restored config i put back on the ecm got messed up. Once i restored it, again, it started right up!
Thanks for the responses!

had the same issue with my 99', when I loaded the maps a glitch happened. I refetched the eprom data and there were figures missing from my maps. I ended up loading the eprom from the bike, followed by retrieving the maps from the race ecm (had opened the race eprom file and chose to save the maps, opened the saved map file) and then chose to burn to the ecm with the changes only box selected. Once this was done though, the bike spun right up. Problem was I did not have the changes only box selected. For whatever reason without the changes only box selected it messed up the map upload and made the bike throw all kinds of trouble codes and would only run for a second or two before dying etc... so to solve try selecting this box prior to burning, should make the bike take the race version of the maps
