All X1 bikes from 99-02 had injection.
And yes, they have the thunderstorm heads and good cams.

As I recall, 1999 injected bikes had issues that were solved by a reflash of the ECU.

Its a killer price for a running bike...less than 2k

Im thinking about it

Do it! I paid $1600 for mine & I haven't regretted it at all. It took some time (& $$$) to get it right but I am really enjoying mine.

my 99 x1 has a 42mm mikuni carb, really good throttle response, for 99 I recommend reverting to a carb, but that's just my opinion.

IMHO, fuel injection is best thing that has ever happened to a gasoline engine ...

A far as the AIR COOLED BUELL engine there is much to be desired !!!

Why do "i" say that, well here goes:

No program to richen the fuel mixture when the engine gets at the maximum temperature(ie: over heating), "BUT" only to dumb mode ..

The F.I. is awesome if it's working.
It's easy to figure out.
Don't be scared of scary computers. My X1 has over 85,000 on it now. The only F.I. related failures are sensors and once, a wire chafed for front injector. Electrical tape = fixed 45,000 miles ago.

The only reason I can think of for going carb is if a previous owner did terrible things to the wiring.

One last note:
Carbs are great when they are working.
Injection is great when it is working.

See the difference?
Me neither.

After messing with a carb for several hours over the weekend, I begged for FI.

the ddfi on the x1 works well, i hav'nt had any grief with mine that was'nt self induced. on the weekend went for a good ride at a reasonable pace 66.7 mpig. excellent fuel economy, and all the torque 1203cc of pent up fury can unleash, at the twist of a wrist.

I have to say that after some initial trepidation regarding the DDFI and ecmspy, I'm more than happy with the system on the bike.

I've tweaked the maps to suit my riding, and the bike runs like a beast.

And, it doesn't care if it's cold out, hot out, or if I'm up in the Adirondaks. It just runs excellent, and it's getting better than 50mpg.
