Is there any way to tell by appearance if it has fluid family 3/4 or 5 in it? Types 3/4/5.1 will mix with water. BRAKE FLUID Class 101, just Pm me for a copy ...   00green Posted on Tuesday, September 06, 2011 - 11:24 pm:        I looked at the master but that doesn't mean the correct fluid is in it and thats my concern. I dont know the history of this bike. Its my experience (right or wrong) from the automotive world that on a fresh system rebuild you can use either fluid with either seal. Just don't mix or try to change over. Blake is right, water should mix with a glycol based fluid and repel a silicone base fluid. PM sent, I'ii take all the 101's I can get!   Littlebuggles Posted on Wednesday, September 07, 2011 - 01:34 pm:        Most of us tend to stick with the recommended fluid per the bike, there's not a "upgrade your fluid" type theme here on the board. So perhaps that will help too? Stock fluid seems to work fine for most of us as long as it's being replaced periodically. I can only remember the topic of changing out to a synthetic coming up once, or maybe twice in the time I've been a regular member on the board.
