so this happened about a week ago. I rode about 50 mile ot so and when climbing a hill the bike suddenly starts to die like it's running out of gas or to high a gear. I try to downshift to gain power and it just dies. When I come to a stop I start it right back up it idles and runs fine for about 20 miles, everything perfect then out of nowhere just dies? She was running a lil hot but no engine light or anything?

this is starting to happen more freqently
any ideas?

also might be helpful to mention my bike has a 42mm mikuni carb and a rev limiter. Oil changed next day and it did it again a day later.

Make sure your tank vent is clear. If you have an extra coil you may try to swap it out and see if that helps.

Ignition switch contacts are shot or maybe kill switch is intermittent?

Have you run diagnostics yet? There is a plug tucked up into your triple tree area, right side and behind the fairing, that is your diagnostic plug. Pull it forward. It has a rubber boot on it. Rotate so the connector lock (which isn't used) is at the 12 o'clock position. Now jumper the two right pins together.

Have pencil and paper handy. Turn ignition switch to RUN, kill switch to ON, and start counting the pulses from your ECM. There will be a series of pulses, then pause, then the first number is pulsed out (count how many pulses) then pause, then the second number is pulsed out, so count this one too. Your diagnostic code is a series of two numbers. Wait for all codes to be displayed, then when you start to see a repeat of them, you can quit this test.

What codes do you see with the diagnostic test?

He has converted to carb. Probably removed the sensors, right?

Did you check your pick up coil aka ignition module in the nose cone (timing plate). Mine just let out the smoke...symptoms were close to a bad coil. Under $40 part.

forgot to mention my bike has a dyna s ignition, not sure if that matter. Also when I'm riding, after about an hour the bike seems to have no power or struggling, in first it has a hard time doing clutch up anything! When starting from a stop it struggle like it's in 2nd or 3rd? Any ideas if it could be the same issue?

I'd check your fuel line routing. A bit of restriction will give exactly those symptoms.

tank vents are deffinetly clear, no blockage in the fuel lines either, yes the sensors are removed, I think the ignition module is my best bet, any way to test it? And could the lose of power be from over heating in the carb?
