I thought I sorta knew pretty much "everything" about tubers.

I just got a back up set of PM's for my S2 off EBay.

No slots?? Are these a RARE collectable???.........What are they off of??

I believe they are the late model PMs, 2001-2002. If you check the outer rim it should have the date it was made. They were optional on (2002)Cyclones, Lightnings and Thunderbolts.

Heres a pic with the date etched in the wheel. It also has the wheel dimensions. Hope you can see it.

Hey.....thanks for the replies........I don't "recall" seeing the full spokes without the slots......but then, a lot of things slip by me.

my 99 S3 has slotted PM wheels, got it from the first owner and the wheels were on there since delivery. Might be based on production date?

Oops.. Slotted were up to 99... forgot first year X1's had them. So,
Slotted from 95-99
Non-slotted from 00-02.

Totally forgot about that.. Oops.

Good luck keeping them looking good. Had them on my tuber and switched back to the orange ones. When their clean they look very sharp.

"Non-slotted from 00-02."

My '00 X1 (build date Nov '99) has slotted wheels. Makes me think they were optional for 01-02 model years.

LOL,
That's an understatement Hoot, got mine stripped for polishing now. would like to mount microfiber to my fork and swingarm. :-) Mine (96 S1) is a daily driver and twice a week is not enough i finally gave up and wax the f*** out of them and strip and polish a few times a year. One day i'm gonna clear them.

I have read that one can use, auto urethane clear-coat (Hardener Type)
or Power Coat clear to put this to rest.
I wonder about chipping etc, as in auto rims, so
Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, its off to Polish I go.
Until I can find someone (or two) that have experience with these coatings.

I'm surprised Oldog hasn't chimed in on this thread yet. He had the PM wheels on his X1 powdercoated and has had some BAD experiences with the powdercoat cracking. I am unaware of all the details - if there's the possibility of adding a flex agent to powdercoat like you can to paint or any other ways of circumventing the cracking issues Oldog experienced - so at a bare minimum this is one data point to use some caution in deciding to powdercoat PM wheels.

Hopefully Oldog will chime in and give first person facts,

You could never seal the wheels inner spokes to make a clear coat work properly. Take a light and look in-between the spokes and you will see what i mean. There is no way it will work like we all hope it would have. It also sounds expensive to have it done. If you "can" get it done post some pics as i have a brand new set of pm wheels that i can't bare to install because they will look like crap in a week.

here is a pic with the factory valve stem installed. "Also note the inner spoke surface!"

Hey I just had an idea. I wonder how well plasti-dip in the spray can would work for these? Obviously it will flex but you may have to prep the wheels for it to grab the plasti-dip and if it does fail you will have fun trying to clean them up.

just an idea
