As I stare at my poor M2 with it's leaking shock and pogo stick type ride thinking... $700 for a new Works shock? I thought to myself... "Self, what other bikes yuse a pull shock type system?" The first (and only) one that popped into my head was the HD Softail line. So any thoughts (FACTS WOULD BE BETTER) on why this would or would not work? I know they are not adjustable and the bikes usually use two of them. I am just looking at alternatives here. based on this link it looks like it would be about 2 or 3 inches short but that could be rectified I think. http://www.ultimaproducts.com/SoftailShocks.pdf

No facts, but my thoughts: Assuming the rear eye will fit your swingarm, you still have to fab up a front mount and deal with the length issue. After purchasing the shock. The spring rate/capacity of the Softtail shock is good for 1/2 the rate needed for a bike with an base weight 200lbs heavier than yours. The damping rates are also 1/2 what is needed for the much heavier bike. One that is not built for the more sporting use we put our Buell's through. I don't know how that would transfer. Leverage ratio difference (if any)between your swingarm pivot/shock attach point and a Softail's not withstanding, what difference, if any, is there in rear wheel travel? I would call Al. I put a Works on my X-1, and while spendy, it was worth it. Dave |

which line was the indian larry line? Either way, I think the post above nails it, you might be able to find one cheaper that way, but the specs would be off some since it is a bike usually using two, but it does weigh a bit more than our tubers. Any way to just have your shock redone? I've never looked into it, but didnt know if someone like RaceTech could fix it for a small amount (less than 700 anyway) and get you set up more to your weight/riding style |

Race Tech did a great job with my shock including a Gold valve kit. The only question is how long will it last |
