I wanted to continue on my previous thread but it seems to stay archived when you post again? Feel free to educate me so I don't make duplicate threads on my same topic.

I wanted to share the progress made so far because it made me smile. My idea for a tube sub-frame is finally coming together. We used slightly smaller tubing than the frame so it wouldn't look too chunky and flow better. Only have the top loop completed so far but that was the most difficult part. Cant wait to get this completed.

And in the end it should look like this. : )

Might not appeal to everyone but I am a "less is more" believer.

looks "clean" to me.
what will you use for back lights?
As "less is more" maybe LED's would be a nice looking option in the back of the tube? think it should be easy to fix.

I have the LED OE style tail lamp w/integrated blinkers. I plan on using it but it will be tucked behind the tubing leaving half of its normal height visible. The lense is smoked and I think it won't distract from the profile too much. Still have a few things to sort out once we start mocking it up on bike.

We will better know a solid price when we have the prototype and fixtures completed.

Like I mentioned probably around $600-800.

The design will remain basically the same but we can build these to order. Paint or powder coat, bare metal, with or without factory tail lamp mount. Rjn mentioned LEDs in the tube? Like I had mentioned in my previous post if there is enough interest and we sell 4 of these we may do the next batch in aluminum but that would obviously increase the cost.

Even at $800 I think that is a fair price. The other sub frames I have seen are way more money and personally I think ours will be the coolest out there! Just my opinion though.

Yes it does... and we had planned on making them so everything bolts right up. But there is always the option to do different custom things as requested.

Mine wont have the tabs to mount the turn signals but I had planned on making them with turn signal mounts since most people have blinkers. I think they are required by law too. ; )

Probably mount just like original location (tabs off the tail lamp mount plate)unless we find a better place during mock up.

Everything will make more sense when I can proudly show off the prototype.

If the second one comes out cleaner than the proto-type maybe you can have that one at a discount :P

I think when I told you I was planning on making just one... FOR ME!

My custom one-off subframe isn't gonna be as cool if other people have one too!

Not trying to be dikc but if your going to make/fab/sell products here you should seek being a sponsor before advertising said product for sale .

BTW in my shop that piece being a one off would sell for about $350 powdered coated.

No challenge at all, just fact.

Am I interested in producing them.... not really..no market for it.
Money talks Bullshit walks.

I myself would worry about fixing this first

I don't take offense to that at all Jramsey. Your not a dick and have been very helpful to me since I have been on here. I had not planned on selling anything originally. This was going to be a one off part for my bike until I found out the pieces I needed bent would require me to order enough material to have 5 made.

Said product technically isn't for sale yet. I am gauging interest but would definitely love to sell at least 4 of these. More if it worked out. I have a real job this is just for fun.

I do not know what being a sponsor entails but if it would be required for me to peddle a couple things I would like more info. I had not looked at this as something long term or a possible business venture.

$350?!?!? I should have come to you first!!!

I spent more than that on the material and having it bent! I was guesstimating on the price from the cost of materials, time to actually make it (my friend is the fabricator not me) and cutting what other tails sell for in half.. ish.

Not trying to get rich (again I have a real job). Just thinking I could offer something pretty cool, pay my friend for his time, cover materials, sublet labor and make a small profit for my time involved.

The American way yea?

But now you have me thinkin Jramsey. I would have more fun selling bike parts. That would be awesome. I don't think I could quit my job making x1 seat frames. Not a huge market. : (

Hahahaha... dont remind me Jramsey!!!!

I was going to ride my bike to my friends shop to finish mock up before that happened!!!

Thats just cruel man! ; ) Bolts are on the way and I am going to tackle that next week.

I likely am going to end up with an overpiced one off part but ya know what... I am gonna like it. : )

Looks cool Michael. Looking forward to seeing the completed project! Are you going to color match to the frame and just bolt it to the existing lugs?

I think id like to go with blue but if I can't nail nuclear blue id rather it be black than not match.

I think I asked before but... anyone have a paint code?

its powder so im not sure if you will find a paint code.

Email this guy... they are the original powdercoaters for the tuber frames.

jamesb@classiccoatings.com

ask him what color and brand the powder was.
Im sure its Tiger powder.

Also, if you talk to powderbuythepound, you should be able to send them say your pass peg mount and they can custom mix powder for you.

If you are interested, i can powdercoat it for you if you dont have a local place.

also, subframe looks GREAT!

Thanks for the compliment sir.

And thanks for the info.. that explains a lot. I went through all PPGs paint cards with no luck. Found something close in House of Kolor but it was not dead on. I thought it was paint due to it looking like a 3-stage. I coulda sworn it was blue base with red or purple pearl. Its called nuclear blue but.. in certain light its friggin purple!

I have a friend that just started powdercoating but he has a ghetto set-up. Gutted an old oven I think! Hopefully this part fits because all the local powdercoaters want to charge an arm and a leg unless you do a large run of parts.

I would be curious what you would charge me sir.

I like it. I think it would be far more valuable mated to a "real" seat. Something off the shelf from another bike. I've spent more than $800 on seats trying to get a comfy one and still not satisfied... I know not your goal here and no easy task finding the correct one.

That's a great idea- pick a bike with a comfy seat that is plentiful..like a Duc Monster or something.

Subframe looks good, not my cup-o-tea, but nice work, and fun to see something different!

Joel... Thats a brilliant idea. I had not even considered that. I originally got the idea from looking at the profile of the X1 seat thinking it alone would make a cool skinny tail. I had considered chopping it up even and making it less comfortable.

Andy.. I have never ridden a monster are they comfy?

Kind of committed now but I like the idea.

Not quite done but progress was made. The lower supports are tacked in and it will sit a little lower when completed. Got my crossroads bars bolted on and my broken front ISO bolts replaced. Can wait to ride her again.
