You know that stupidly designed gas cap that we all have trouble with? Well I got fed up with it after needing to buy an allen wrench at the gas station just to fill up. What that pesky gas cap didn't know is that I would shortly be performing surgery on it without anesthetic. Heheheh

Anyways, I had a piece machined to fix the darn gas cap. with a little tinkering in my garage and the new improved piece, the inevitable stripping of the weak plastic piece is no more than a quickly fading memory as I bask in the satisfaction of a gas cap that actually works.

If there is enough interest I could have a bunch made. I'm not too sure how this type of thing goes down tho.

Here is the part

and here is the assembly

Lube it with a drop of oil once in a while, like once per year, then no problem.

My cap would get stuck I found that the plastic expanded so I took the belt sander to the side of the plastic part now no pronominal no leaks. You only need to take a very minut amount off.

Cool fix for a possible future problem for anyone who parks it and doesn't do any preventative maintenance on the cap. I do but would prefer to not have this problem, ever.

I'm down for one too.

Thanks for the responses. Cost would really depend on how many people are interested - the more the cheaper. Do I really need to go through a sponsor if I intend to just charge cost and shipping?

Good fix Mat, you should be able to make your own profits, without stepping on toes, and help the Buell community with this simple and useful part.

Might be a viable option to see if American Sport Bike would be interested in buying the design from you, Al could probably build them through the Crossroads product line or you have them made by your machinist and sell them (as a retrofit) through A.S.B. or one of the sponsoring dealerships.

I think that's what Billet 2 Race did, selling their parts in limited runs here, through Bumpus HD.

just my $.02

Kevin, PM sent.

Essmjay, Blake's house, Blake's rules.

Anyway, I don't think the whole thing has been squashed, just need to adjust the approach a little bit.

I posted in Al's section about possibly being a sponsor for this part so I'll wait to hear what he says.

If hes not interested, I'll email anyone who is interested more details, and pricing when I get it. (just pm me - no more posts on this thread I suppose?)
