875-975 is low.

Think oil pressure. And (since oil is your cooling system), think cooling.

Clutch might be dragging a little bit too, if it has to be in neutral to keep it from dying.

i'm sorry but its late and i'm feeling nit-picky...

how does 875 fall into the 950-1050 range?

do you do budgets for the fed?

I keep mine around 1050 or so...Seems to be the sweet spot.

But then again, my motor is built a lot different.

It should be idling in my driveway waiting for me to ride it.

Thanks Davegess... when I saw the title "Where should my Buell idle" I wanted to answer "In my driveway when warming up and at stop lights".

My idle is at 950.. nice and lumpy there : )

Others answered idle speed part of your question but the bike should not die with clutch pulled in. In fact it should make no difference in engine idle speed with or without clutch pulled in. Don't know if S1s have clutch safety switch. Something to check if they do have one.

That was my other thought when I posted about the clutch dragging. If it lug's and dies it's prolly clutch, if it just dies every time the clutch is let out it's prolly the switch as Kalali has addressed.

Look for a switch just behind the side stand hinge to locate it if you think the clutch adjustment is not playing a part in the engine shutting off...

If it stretched, I would inspect it. stretching usually leads to snapping.

BUELLers you must remember you have a mechanical oil pump which pumps directly proportional to engine speed ...

IDLE RPM SHOULD BE SET AT 1000 RPM ...
