So how fast have you had her up to? I love to blow peoples eardrums out with that same D&D exhaust system. I was going to have my headers coated like that and i forgot D'oh. It looks great........I'd love to race ya!

PB, had to go to the GPS Speedo after the build, kept breaking the stock speedo.... : ) -- seriously, I run her hard weekly over 115 but have had her in the 130's easy... before 130-140 was impossible to a chore, now at over 108rwHP and 92+ lbs-ft torque, it is very easy to put her into the bottom of the speedo... i ride her hard but take very good care of her now... since 2008 no more wheelies.. but twisties she lives for : )

So with dumping the FI system, you like the carb better?? I'm really getting sick of my FI, just too sensative...Just wondering if it could be a winter chang over project for me.........

Dude, YES! dumping the FI was the best damn thing I did to my beloved X1W! She had never run smoother or stronger. Mitkuni HSR42 would be more than enough for stock engine a Mitkuni HSR45 for a heavily modifed bike and she runs sweet. Mitkuni is very, very responsive, street-minded at low speed and roll off low idle is wicked snappy and she has strong instant torque.. just look at my archived dyno sheet and how fat and flat the Hp/Torque is... she could NEVER do that with that damn DDFI

So what do you do to the computer so it works properly?? Along with the carb you change out the intake manifold also? What am I looking at for $ parts?? I can do the install myself...........

You totally eliminate the fuel pump, filter, ECM, Temp Sensor, O2 they are GONE! you have to install a fuel bung and pull choke with the carb and change out your intake.. you cannot use your DDFI intake. The ECM is not needed for anything at all when you move to Carb. Carb will always net more torque if tuned properly, you can easily do all the work but I highly recommend some head work if you upgrade to say a 1250cc kit or larger.. if staying stock the HSR42 Carb and Intake are very easy to do yourself with a Service Manual and there are lots of people here to help you... including me. : )

build sheet and dyno posted in my postings archives. I did some SE .575 CAMS, Stage III Head work, SE roller rockers, race springs, XB Rockers and custom intake with the HSR-45 Mitkuni -- I then installed a Speedhut 160MPH Speedo to ensure I was doing what speed she is now capable of... rocking hot speedo and NO damn pickup sensors just GPS! : )

Nice looking bike Weatherbyman. All this carb talk has me thinking. I understand carbs a little more than injection. I have learned more about injection in the last month than I ever thought I would. I ran dual 44 Mikunis on my Kawi 750 Jetski back in the day and they were pretty basic. Once jetted properly they were trouble free. Where I live now I can ride from the beach to the mountains. I know on my Jetski altitude made a HUGE difference in performance and literally had it tuned/jetted for my favorite lake. Does altitude affect performance on these bikes enough to keep me playing with my maps and not thinking about a carb?

Weird, I'm using the FI and getting an indicated 135 pretty easily. Completely stock except for the rear suspension and a buell racing header/muffler.

135 AFV? The AFV fluctuates to compensate for things like temp and altitude yea? And will also try and compensate for mods leaning it out from what I understand.

It would be nice to "set it and forget it" a carb I mean. hehehe.

Nothing in the Buell beats a carb. PERIOD, otherwise there would not be constant posts and comments on adjusting this, adjusting that.... you eliminate the ECM, TPS, AFV, Oxygen Sensor, Fuel Pump, poor ignition system, injectors prone to clogging, losing integrity of the o-rings, CHT... there is just no better induction for the old design of the XL motor despite it being "Buellized" -- now if you have a new Rotax or inline, then fuel injection is a must have! A well tuned right-sized carb is just plain hard to beat for the XL engines.
