Ok so my 97 S1 clutch needs replaced. I'm going with the extra plate type but want to know ideas for the best brand.

My bike has somewhere between 25-30K miles on it on the stocker. It held up well for the abuse I put it through. Bike is stock other than heads exhaust, intake and .030 over stock pistons. Next time I have to rebuild I will go 1250 kit w- XB heads.

I also have an updated detent plate to install. Last time I had the primary off I noticed the curved arm that that is attached to the shift shaft was rubbing on the primary chain. Is there a bearing in there that I should replace while I'm in there? I don't have my FSM with me but will when I do the work.

I plan on borrowing the clutch compression tool.

Looking for any other suggestions while I'm in there. I have a newer primary tensioner but will check it for wear.

Thanks for the help.

Long live E.B.R.

I just installed an Energy One. I got the kit with the tool. Went together easy.

Might as well replace the crankshaft seal and the stator wires boot while you are in there.

And upgrade to the new detent plate.

Crank seal check

Detent check

What's the deal with the stator wire boot is that a separate part number?

Any other maintenance ideas?

I'd also check the bronze bushing at the end of the shift shaft. It gets worn and will fail.

I believe there is one on the inner end of the shifter lever.

Amazing.

I called Energy One and they were very helpful. Had some questions about stronger spring, extra plate kit, etc. I asked him about the seller on Ebay and he said they are a reputable seller but offer no technical support. Ebay guy is only marking up a few $ over dealer cost. He knows the seller and he buys 250 at a time.

Here's the great part...He told me to buy it from the ebay seller and if I had an issue with it Energy One would still stand behind the product and warranty it directly!

Class act all the way. Thanks for the tips and suggesting E1.

Now to find a source for the Bronze shifter bushing and crank seal.

Yep. I bought the combo kit that included the clutch puller.

My puller shaft broke. I spoke with Kent at the Energy One. He said, send it in, we'll warranty it.

VERY cool people to deal with.
