Tonight I am replacing my 99x1's cam position sensor is there a way to check and verify the the timing once installed? Thanks!

Yes. From the manual...

...to obtain approximate ignition timing during installation, scribe alignment marks across existing CPS plate in two places.

Install new CPS and timer plate studs (two of them). Rotate cam position to the previously marked position to obtain approximate ignition timing.

Caution

Route sensor wires about 1.5 inches in, forward of secondary drive belt and sprocket. If wires are routed too far to the rear of this position, they could contact the moving secondary drive belt and/or sprocket, resulting in damage to sensor wiring.

Check ignition timing.
Remove the timing plug from the timing inspection hole centered below the cylinders on the right side of the crankcase.

Remove the spark plugs.

Jack up vehicle to allow rotation of the rear wheel.

Shift transmission into fifth gear.

Bring engine to top dead center (TDC).

Standing on left side of vehicle, slowly rotate rear wheel in a counter-clockwise direction until front intake valve opens and closes (as viewed through spark plug holes).

Rotate rear wheel until TDC mark is centered in timing inspection hole.

This is where they call out an HD "breakout box"

Disconnect the gray connector off your ECM. Plug a multi-meter across pins 3 (negative) and pin 8 (positive). This is on the wiring side of the connector, not the ECM.

You must have the engine stop switch to ON. Turn ignition switch to RUN.

Go back to the CPS plate. Rotate plate until you see your multi-meter change from 0.0-1.0 VDC to 5.0 VDC.

Tighten timer plate studs (two of them) to 15-30 in-lbs

Install inner cover using screws. Tighten to 12-20 in-lbs

Caution
Use only HD Part # 8699 rivets to secure outer timing cover.

That should do it for you.

Same for FI tubers On my 01 the wire colors are even the same. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/113649.html

If you have access to ECM Spy you can use that as well
