Might be a good idea to drop the float and make sure you don't have "floaters" in there.
I learned that lesson early on with my minibike. Starts right up and runs fine then dies. over and over. A floating chunk of something would be drawn into the jet only when it was running. When it was off, it would sink out of the way.

I think my minibike's floater that time was a chunk of an oak leaf : )
Yours would probably be more subtle.

or remove gas cap and test.

The way you avoid these mysterious start up problems when you let you CARBURETOR BIKE set for over a week is to turn the gas off with you siting on it and let the engine run until the carb runs dry ...

The other day I ran dry on the freeway, took 5 minutes to realize I dont have a "low gas" light, but a reserve valve. Switched the valve and made my way to the nearest gas station. Filled up and then turned the petcock to "OFF"

Fired it up and died. Now I was sweating my ass off. My bike broked, my bike broked!

lol i figured it out.....

I ran my reserve dry one time and thought that the petcock was clogged and reserve didnt work. It took me a little to figure out that the longer/lever side of the petcock was the opposite end of it and not what you wanted to point at the setting. So when I thought it was "on" it was really on "reserve"

When I traded in my springer on my Buell, the petcock position (on / off) was the opposite on the Buell as to what it was on the Harley. First week or so I died every time I left the neighborhood, same spot every time.

Yea , I learned on the first ride . Buell is different than the KZ I had . I put a dot of red paint on the on position , helped out .
