and I get a transmission error saying I have the wrong ecm type: BUEKA.

ecmspy connects ok to the ecm, and says connected in the status box. I can pull the eeprom, and log data when the bike is connected. I did a TPS reset, and that finished and worked fine.

When I determined which ecm I had, I used their method using ecmdemo and it returned BUEKA.

Now, when I try to write the map to the eeprom, it's telling me I have BUEJA.

Scratching my head here. I bought the BUEKA download based on what they told me, there isn't even a BUEJA download to purchase on the site.

What am I missing?

is it as simple as finding a race map that has BUEJA on it instead of BUEKA?

I think I may have a solution, please tell me if my thinking is flawed here.

I took an x1 race map's .txt file, copy and paste the raw data out of that into the original map's .txt file.

if I take that now edited .txt file and replace the now backed up original .txt file and load that, it should read that properly since I haven't touched the file name or the ecm "header".

am I on the right track here?

you're not trying to burn the eeprom are you?.
If so not the thing to do.

Load the race eeprom, select fetch maps(race),
then burn maps not the eeprom.

race maps are not eeprom specific, they will work in both eeproms.

As Nallac sais,Load race maps you have saved (in kennfeld folder)}, then burn to eeprom.

Ok maybe I'm not asking good questions here : )

I am not trying to write the incorrect eeprom back to the ecm, am trying to write the race MAP back to the ecm.

hope that clears up what I'm trying to do.

I'm running into this problem:

I have the race maps and the race eeprom. The maps have the .txt extension and the eeprom has the .epr extension.

I moved the map.txt into the maps folder in ecmspy. Open ecmspy and attempt to load maps. There's nothing to load. I know the maps should have a .msq extension. But I read here and elsewhere that people are using the .txt extension.

What am I missing again? should I rename the mapfile to map.msq?

help is much appreciated

I only use the files with the .msq extension when editing/loading/burning the maps.
I am curious though as what did you buy from those guys - the ECMspy program or just the maps/EEPROM files? Either way, if they charged you for this, then they should help you get it to work. In the meantime, try loading the Race .msq files and see how it goes.

kalali,

ecmspy program and access to some database.

I'd love to get some help from them, and mike from opti is doing what he can, but ecmspy themselves don't seem to have ANY contact info. Which is aggravating as hell to me. I agree, part of the price of having to pay for your product or software means you're there when guys like me that paid the price of admission needs help.

thank god for badweb guys, this would be beyond frustrating

Generally there is very little reason for burning the entire EEPROM file onto an existing ECM, either Race or Stock. And as others have said, the fuel/timing maps are agnostic to the EEPROM version. That's why most folks just burn the Race maps and then tweak them, if necessary, to match their exhaust/intake configuration and set up.
Hang in there. We'll eventually get is all sorted out...

Hey Jdodd, lets get you sorted out. Firstly, are you using this version of ECMSpy?

They are different but do the same thing, the one above will do all ECMs, including 1125s...

The one above is much more powerful for tuning, you can log dual wideband lambdas, which is a godsend...

Think I may have a working solution here tell me if I'm off base:

Open ecmspy
load the race eeprom
save the fuel/timing maps out of it
connect to the bike
fetch bike eeprom
load race maps saved earlier
burn eeprom

that makes sense to me so far, anyone else?

ok if that fits, then here's my next question

do I need to save out front fuel, rear fuel, front timing and rear timing separately?

if so, do I need to load each map individually and burn the eeprom each time?

No need to TPS reset if just changing the maps. The TPS reset is there to "zero" the TPS sensor for a fully closed throttle butterfly. Changing the maps does not affect this...

"on my version i just loaded the maps then saved maps and everything saved all in one."

As I understand from this thread, and it is not too easy to follow if just stepping in, Jdodd doesn't have maps per se, but has an EEPROM image of a race ECM. He is going to extract the maps then load them in over the image he has from his own ECM...

Success!

Extracted race maps, fetched eeprom off bike ecm, loaded race maps and successfully burned them to the ecm.

Many thanks to the guys here for lending a hand and getting this figured out!

Stops you from ramming something into your ECM that shouldn't be going in... It was not so long ago, I remember reading on the XB board, that people were loading EEPROM images of dubious quality into ECMs and goofing the ECM beyond the point of no return...

If that happened to you, who would you be blaming?

The maps are something tangible which you can view before burning, if you were to burn a full EEPROM image, would you be sure EA at 05DD was correct?

Great to hear. I also use the "original" version but I might try the new version just to see if it provides more features.
Hopefully you won't need to play around too much with the program once you get the maps dialed in for your bike.
