man im all out of options.. dunno what to do, this light bulb wont stay on.. i tore down the entire backend of the bike today and everything looks good, put the bulb in place and everything worked. when i got home i saw the light was no longer on. so im guessing it wiggled loose.. what bulb exactly do i need to buy for this thing? i cant find it in the manual or anything and cant really afford that LEG backend until a couple of weeks but i need some kind of light back there for the time being, if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Excessive vibes will kill a bulb, if your rear isos are shot that could be it

should i buy a back light from harley dealer? think its different than the ones im getting at the auto stores? atleast i think i got the break light to stay on but the idle light or w/e that light is that stays on all the time wont come on, so when riding at night i have no light until i start to break =/ atleast im safe during the day until i get enough money to buy something, unless someone else has any other suggestions.

I think that the light bulbs are almost the same!(only the price is different)

how are the contact areas in the socket?
and if you push a bulb in and turn it in place ,does is come back a little?

some sockets have a spring behind the contacts/plate and some have a soft rubber compound ,maybe thats the problem why the light is coming lose!?

and check if there is voltage on the contact areas in the socket.

I've had to replace the socket and reflector on my 2000 model year bike once. the socket is plastic and putting the bulb in wrong once when I wasn't paying attention bunged it all up. Light bulbs wouldn't fit right after that.

It was fairly inexpensive from the HD shop a couple years ago.

Excessive vibes, as Guell said, could kill the whole rear light assembly too.

hey brother mines totally different than yours, mines just like 2 metal things sticking up and thats it, it started when i had to replace the bulb for the first time. the bulb that was in there probably a 13 year old bulb, was basically glued in there took so much force to get it out i actually chiped the bulb. the contacts still look good, ohwell i atleast got a break light now just not a parking light. I will buy the LED tail section from amazon then in the next week or 2 than. since imma buy a new one anyways i might just put some damn super glue in there lol thanks for the imput littlebuggies :P btw front pulley working excellent already put almost 1k miles on it now : p

Found this cross reference:

http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/b.pl/p21-5w|12v |21w|5w|bay15d~ece.html

Also found this from a thread somewhere talking about a 12V 21W/5W tail light bulb. Cant guarantee you it's the same but maybe you have local Honda dealer and you can look at bulb? Also check local auto supply and ACE H/W stores.
----
Honda part # is 34906-MBB-611.

Also found this on another forum about an auto part replacement bulb:

"Tail light bulb is a #7443. I got a couple Sylvania 7443 at Advance Auto, but I was not happy with them. The OEM bulb has a support pin in the middle of the tail light filament, but the Sylvania did not. I went to NAPA, and there 7443 was identical to the OEM. The difference is the OEM and NAPA bulbs are heavy duty, or sometimes called severe duty and long lasting. The regular Sylvania says standard performance on the package, and don't have the support for the filament."

i just dont get it.. works for a bit then the running light part of the bulb breaks.. i still have the brake light but no running light which means riding at night sucks. if i buy that ducati intergrated LED tail light on amazon think that will fix the problem?

not sure.. how do i check? you think a shop would test or w/e for free? lol btw light was working when i bought it and stuff until it blew (was old prob. orginal) ever since it would work for a while then the little metal peice inside would bust but the brakeone still intact.

no, how much and where can i buy one? im riding to thundertower harley tomorrow, they said they have a bulb for my bike in stock (didnt tell them what kind of volts or wattage they looked it up on the pc) so im going to go there and pick it up, if that blows then imma just buy that ducati intergrated tail light on amazon. If this bulb i buy at harley blows im not buying anymore lol ill just keep switching the bulb from brake light during day and running light at night.

well i went to harley dealer today and the light bulb looked promissing.. it had another metal thing supporting the small running light peice, but before i even left the parking lot it blew.. so i said it i went to auto zone paid the $18 for the 2 LED bulbs and they stayed on.. imma see at night tonight if it has enough light to shine alittle on my license plate thats right underneath the tail light cover.

success! i put some cardboard between the bulb and the housing thing where the bulb goes into, and i drove it down this bumby street and to the gas station going thru most of the gears and the light stayed on the entire time! this is awsome haha :P lets hope it stays this way, and LED bulb puts out just enough light to shine alittle on the license plate, granted its not white or anything but atleast theres light :P
