So after a ride on Sunday I got some new rattles. I noticed the big bolt on the exhaust Y bracket was loose and poking around a bit more I found the thing pictured.

It appears to made of Bakelite, has a wire running through the middle of it, and its between the rocker box and head in the pass thru.

Whatever it is I assume it fell from the rocker box? I can almost spin it around with my finger and it RATTLES.

Is that wire a temp sensor? I really need a service manual. Hehehehe.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: This is on the rear cylinder and the front does not have this little thing sitting there.

Is that thing supposed to flop around in there?

No but it is fairly common. It is the rubber plug to keep crap from getting into the rear head temp sensor hole. The rubber dries out and just kinda flops around. I tried to put my new one in better and it is the same. It's poorly designed if you ask me.

So that used to be a pliable piece of rubber eh? Hehehe... its rock hard. In theory I should be able to shove in down into the head?

No if it is removed and looked at closely it is angled like a ramp so it sits semi flush with the head. The part that is supposed to hold it in the head is only like 1"-1\4" here is a reference pic.

Like i said before poorly designed.

I will agree.. stupid design. But at least I know not to be too concerned. Thanks!
