they have been ceramic coated / i googled around, seems that #000 ultra fine steel wool or 1500 wet sand paper is the way to go

i saw multiple metal polishes mentioned as well

For ceramic coated headers (like on the X1W) the manual suggests "Harley Sunwash" (part no 94659-98), for what it's worth. It also gives the common sense advice of staying away from abrasive compounds and power buffers.

I've had good luck cleaning hot exhausts with plain ol' Easy Off oven cleaner.

Cold stuff, 50/50 simple green and water works wonders. Spray, let soak, (maybe rub), and rinse.

i used #0000 super fine steel wool / got the whole works wet and went at it for about 5 minutes
