I have a Question about the Interchangability of the "Sportster/Tuber" Y-Shaped intake manifold. I high sided my '01 M2L last Feb, and it seems I've cracked the intake during the crash. My Brother is coming out in 3 weeks to do some riding, so I need to get this Cyclone back on the road. Will a "Stock" Sportster manifold fit on the Buells? Will an Older Buell manifold fit? I have a line on a '99 M2 intake. If that'll fit, I should be able to Move Forward. Thanks for any info. |

They are the same as long it is not for a fuel injected buell. I am not sure how new of a sportster manifold would fit though. |

Okay, cool. From what I've seen the "Modern Sportster" intake is from 1988 - 2005. That would cover the Tubers! I'm gonna Jump on that 1999 M2 intake for $40. I'll post Pic later. This crack is Nasty! (Hope the Carb isn't TOO Messed up!) |

FI and carbed intakes are interchangeable, you just need different bolts (one's metric, one's SAE) and possibly a spacer depending on the intake. I'm currently running a Forcewinder intended for a carbed bike, just ziptied the IAT sensor to the frame rail by the tank, works fine. |

He is talking about the intake manifold not the air filter inlet. |

I think the question was about the intake manifold not air intake. |

Heh! Thanks for the assistance guys. This bike is back & Running. I ended up getting a new Sportster intake. It's the same part number, but has a -4 at the end instead of a -2. There's a small untapped Boss for something, but it fit's like a glove! And Heads Up if you ever have to change one of these. You need a set of Very Short Allen Wrenches! These are 1/4". I improvised by putting a 1/4" Wrench on a 7/64" Bit. (The bits I have are all 1/4" in the Driver end) This gave me the Bite from the 1/4" end that I needed, but with the Skinny end sticking out there was room to get a wrench on the bit enough to get it turning, then slide it to the skinny end and get another bite until I could turn it with my fingers. And being the Brainiac that I am, I got the bike put back together before I realized that I didn't Lock-Tite anything...(Yes, I took it all apart again and did it right!) |
