I was talking with a guy from seat concepts who does seats for my other bikes. he changes the foam and makes covers. He was telling me that his seat cover guy could maybe make a new cover using the old one as a template\pattern. but he didn't say he could do the foam. And unless you are willing spend high dollars on a corbin seat then your going to need to find another solution.

A cheaper quick fix which was suggested to me was padded bicycle shorts. They make some with gel pads where it counts. My arse was sore after 200mi Saturday.

It's position, more than the seat, from my experience.

I've switched the select seat from the '99 to the '00 and because of the stock airbox config, hurt more than when on the '99 with forcewinder. More knee room I guess.

With the select seat, I can't more around as much as the stock seat and push my butt into the passenger area of the seat.

Stock seat with stock airbox seems to be better for me. Select seat with forcewinder works better than with stock airbox.

ahh i have forcewinder also i tried moving into passenger area a little but it is hard when riping through tight hairpins at speed you kinda drift back in to the seat.

"400 miles and i was hurting so bad half way through"......."yeah i really do not want to spend hundreds on a new seat"

How much is it worth to not have your butt begging you to get off your sportbike and stop having fun??

Yes, and your butt was still begging for you to stop having fun. I was just asking what is it worth to have fun and not be in pain.

Bicycle shorts will help a ton and your boys will be just fine. In fact, I like it better as it keeps everybody in place and reduces any pinching, squashing, what not.

I'd like to get a Gowindward seat, but in the meantime I have an Airhawk pad which works great. I put it on for a x-country trip and liked it so much that it hasn't been off of the bike since.

Pondering investing that kind of $$$$$$ for for a few more HP that most can't use but won't spend a few $$ for all day comfort.

Bicycle shorts ARE a good idea and worth a try for approx $20.00
You really don't need padded ones. Definitely a good place to start..

Odd thing I have experienced:
My original 2000 seat fit my skinny butt pretty well and I could do 600 miles days for a couple of weeks at a time.
The foam gradually lost its firmness over about 60,000 miles and I bought a "new" seat from either Ebay or on here for $50.
It looked mint and the seller said it was on a shelf for its entire life.
I installed it and took off on a nice long trip only to find that it killed my butt.
It looked the same but there was something just a little different.
I ended up just shelving the "new" seat and putting up with my broken down seat.

I've never understood why people have an issue with the X1 seat.. until I bought my XT.

When the X1 was the only thing I knew, I had no problem riding OKC to East Troy for Homecoming, then back again. Now that I'm used to the increased comfort of the XT and the 06 tall seat, I'm not sure I could go back to putting that kind of mileage on the X1 and be happy about it.

I used to refer to the X1 seat affectionately as "nut crusher"

Erik got a kick out of the name, but went on to tell me about the testing that went into the seat. I couldn't see it, I'd just ridden from Rochester NY to Columbus and I was numb . If I remember it got worse as the the miles piled up. That one never worked out for me. I do use the stock seat on track days. it's easy to move around on,

I have the corbin gunfighter . it's a different way of sitting, your legs are more splayed and the seat is way firmer. I didn't like it for the first couple short trips, but it was way better (to me) on the long trips. I've ridden a couple 1000 miles days on the bike and have a whole bunch of 350-500s. I wouldn't hesitate to ride it for 20 hours with that seat.

Look to Ebay
