My Vance exhaust system failed, fell apart! I put back my stock muffler but I have an issue and question.
issue; my side stand hits the tail pipe why if it is stock?

question; I have a force wind intake will the DDFI take care of the change in the flow from the Vance system to the stock system.

It is all quiet now! I need to shop for a new muffler.........

I just got the D&D for my 02 x1....i love it. it's a bit louder (IMO) than the V&H. If you call the girl at d&d you can order the whole slip on for 400 and some change. Mine tucks under the bike nicely. Worth every penny the first time you fire it up.

I had V&H ssr2 carbon fiber and it lasted 525 miles and disintegrated. Now i have a full D&D race system and it is LOUD! But i love it and it fits the bike nicely and the best part is i can remove any part of the system i need to without taking the headers off. I hated having to remove all the crap off the bike just to get the header off.

When I installed my stock muffler back on I noticed the same thing..The piece that the spring would attach to on the kick stand would get caught on the heat shield on the tail pipe...correction- rubber mallet, tapped the heat shield problem solved.

Sorry no pics I took the heat shield off! I will look into the D&D. I did notice a considerable lag when I am coming off a light. must be back pressure.

Don't overlook the Buell Race Header and Race Muffler combination.

I think that may be the best set up of all, even if it is a bit on the expensive side.

Looks great too.

@msr203 - I had the inverted Y hanger on mine already, i was replacing a rashed and broken system. But i know American Sport bike has them for kinda pricey. Id say watch the Classifieds for a part out and snatch one up for 30 40 bucks, and re-sand and paint it again for new life. but if you got money to throw. Here's a quick link to American Sport Bike. And a direct link to the adapter.

A few years back my race muffler gave up the ghost. I wasn't willing to pay $400 for a glass pack muffler, so I went to a local muffler shop. They custom made an adapter to put on a $25 glass pack, installed the thing for all of $50 while I watched. It sounded pretty much like the race muffler, and power was the same. Look wise it was silver steel instead of aluminum, but it could be painted, and you can't see it that much anyway under the bike on a S1W.

Msr203,
Here is a picture. I did this on my first S1W, which I sold 6 years ago. The rear clamp could be done different to look better of course, but at the time all I wanted to do was to get back on the road. I rode it around a year or so before selling, with no problems. The inside of these cans have little fingers of metal where they punched the inner pipe instead of drilling holes in it. You can put it on with the fingers pointing forward or backward to vary I guess the back pressure and the sound to a degree. I liked it better pointing towards the exit end.
The sound was pretty much the same as the race muffler, which is just a larger diameter glass pack. The guy had made an angled end cap, but after putting the muffler on, he didn't have room for it without hitting the rear tire. Looking at the picture now, he could have taken a couple of inches off the front, turned the rear clamp around, and made it work. Having the exhaust hit the rear tire isn't the best idea if you are burning or spitting oil out.
