ECM spy and I think the Megalog viewer

smaller is better, you will be carrying a laptop with you while you ride so a good pak and cable routing is important the later X1 data sockets are under the seat

yep, just click datalog and go for a 30min run trying many gear/throttle combinations.
run the log with megalog viewer when you get back.
Burn your adjusted maps and do another run to see if its been succesfull
you'll need to do this 5 or 6 times until megalog hardly makes any changes or the changes are very small, say a point or two either way.
Once you are confident in using megalog then you can tweek your maps manually by reading the graphs in megalog and keeping an eye on throttle position and revs while riding to see exactly where you need adjustment.

Remember to save your origional maps and eprom just in case it goes belly up.
Make sure the laptop battery is fully charged and things like screensaver and auto shutdown are turned off.
Try www.ecmspy.com for usefull info and there is a massive thread on http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/forumdisplay. php?20-Technical-and-Performance

forgot to add, you will be working on your rear map, you will need to copy and paste it into the front map and add 3 to 5 points across the whole map for the front cylinder.

If you are using Vista or 7 you need to sort the write permissions out for the megalog directory in the ECMSpy parent directory...

You need someone that knows about computers, which is not me.

As I understand it, Vista and 7 stop you from writing to the program files > ECMSpy > megalog directory as a default, you need to change the permissions.

Just right click on your ECMspy icon, click Run As Administrator.

Click the start button, in the search box type in "power", one of the results that will come up is Power Options. Pick that. On the new window that will come up, click Change Plan Settings. The window will change to look like below. Set sleep to never, then click the advanced button, another small window will pop up, go to power buttons and lid, there should be a choice (which I don't have on a desktop), that will let you change your lid closing setting to "do nothing".

There *may* be a faster way to do this, but I don't have a laptop to experiment on.
