Okay,
So you may recall last year I had an issue with the front motor mount that resulted in a 1250 kit, and I figured, as long as I'm in there, I'll do the oil pump drive gear.

Well I have her all apart and the manual tells you to remove the pinion gear an then the oil pump driver gear. it doesn't mention a puller or anything.

The bike is an 01 X1 with approx 48K miles on it. The gear doesn't look bad, but I do have the new one and would like to change it out. Am I missing something easy or do I need to get a gear puller or "coax" it out in another way? The bolt on the shaft is off. I took the picture off prior to that step.

Also I'm new to Harley motors, so I want to make sure I have the cam line-up correct. It's just the dots, combined with the pinion gear which is fixed to a shaft with a key correct? Does this look close. I'm beginning to miss shim under bucket setups !

This is how the cams should line up

I used a small puller to get mine off.

I had the same question when I did mine. Yes, a small puller pops it loose easily. New one goes on without fuss. (I was all set to heat it.)
