I don't know what's in there now (whatever the last owner put in it), but it smells a little like gas.....Bike runs great, I just want to get some fresh stuff in there.....The dealer told me to stay away from synthetics(??)
I run Mobil 1 in all of my other bikes (Japanese fours).......Opinions welcome.........What are you running??

Thanks...........

I run amsoil in both holes. Harley techs at my local dealership say its as good as anything you can buy and put in you engine.

I seldom run synth for the engine side.
I always run the H-D branded tranny fluid though.

I don't doubt that synth is superior but my X1 never seemed to "appreciate" it. It just works either way the same.

I always run the HD trans stuff too. My assumption being that the clutch is bathed in it and is probably designed with that specific fluid in mind.

The engine doesn't seem to care what I put in it so long as the fluid level is right and I change it on time or early.

I run HD syn 3 in my motor and HD Sport Trans in the primary. Next change I'm going to try the HD Syn 3 in both holes.

I would run Amsoil in both holes if there was a dealer in my area. They are supporting Erik Buell Racing now so I would like to support them if I could.

Running Amsoil 20W-50 V-Twin Synthetic in the engine and Bel-Ray Sport transmission fluid in the tranny. Wanted to run synthetic in the tranny as well but although my mechanic said it would work "okay" he advised me against it.

The only change I've noticed between engine oils is oil/engine temperature. With Royal Purple (20/50) the engine seems to run roughly 20 degrees cooler. For tranny, I always use HD brand transmission oil.

Also run HD Syn3 in motor and transmission ...

Why, you ask, well if the motor sprocket oil seal goes bad, just where do you think the transmission fluid will go ???

Thanks guys for the feedback. I decided to go with the Amsoil 20w50 in the motor and Redline in the tranny. I talked to the Buell tech at Hal's (they were one of the main sponsors for Buell Racing) and he said the Redline was the best for the tranny.........I'll let you know how it goes....gonzo

+1 on the amsoil

I have tried many different brands of oil. At one point i had 3 flavors in the motor side at the same time accidentally. Not my fault....Engine builder didn't change the oil after the rebuild Just topped off the oil level.

To those of you who run AMSOIL 20w-50, do you buy it straight from AMSOIL online or is their a cheaper way to buy it?

I buy it online, with shipping its about the same price as buying it from a local shop. but in a rush i'll buy it locally. there aren't too many amsoil dealers in here though

I use Lucas racing oil in both. Seems to work great. I get a little oil in my catch can, but I have 18,000+ miles on it now.

I have put almost 1000 miles on since I put in the Amsoil and I have to say, she runs great, not near as much in the catch can as before either. I had a chance to take the bike to Road America for the bike races and run it on the track in the Parade Lap.....I hooked up with a guy who had an 1125R and we gave her hell every chance we could. I got it up to 115 between turns 4 and 5.....We couldn't pass the pace car so we could only go so fast.....What a blast this thing is to ride............
