This may be a silly question, but I was wondering what people's thoughts were on what is the more prefeered S2, older or newer? The reason I ask, is that I have one that has the recalled swing arm, welded fairing bracket and other updates. I also have an S2 that has the original swingarm, added fairing bracket, etc. I would think that the newer, updated bike would be the better bike (I guess I should define 'better' as better to own long term, daily driver, collectable). The older bike rides the same as the newer bike almost bette., I was just wondering what the crew here on Badweb thought. And please don't take this as a 'flame thread', I am just curious.

Thanks for your feedback,

Zen

I have a 1995 S2 that has had zero recalls done and it performs flawlessly; best bike I have ever had as far as fun-factor. And that's what it's mostly about, right? As for the recalls, I have no idea why they were required; my bike has no cracks or defects anywhere on it. I suspect it never will after 16 years. Comments?

I like the older items better. No real reason, I just feel like that's how the bike was intended. No doubt the improvements help in particular situations. Any S2 that has lasted this long is probably just fine with or without improvements. Enjoy whatever you have. In your case, enjoy them all!

I have a 2010 Firebolt, 98 S1W and a 95 S2 that is a museum piece. I have had the S1W the longest but the S2 is a very special bike most rewarding

Well I would prefer the older '95s just because of the billet triples and WP shock but I would have all the recalls done (except the shock). But I ride the heck out of my bikes and I have personally experienced the fairing stay cracking heavily on the sides from the bolt on the support bracket coming loose and falling out. I think that was at around 30K or so, 10K after I got the S2 (it had around 60K when I parted it out, but don't flame me- I still have the frame and title to eventually rebuild it).

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it. I sometimes forget that these bikes are 15 years old. I like to keep mine looking new and was just wondering if upgrading some of these recalled parts made sense. But I will probably keep them as is (aside from some of the 'known' saftey/perfomrance items).

Happy Buelling !!
