Had to ride in about 5 hours of rain on Monday coming back from Leaky, and found that the carbon fiber ham can air filter on my S3 doesn't do a real good job of keeping water out of the system causing a dropped cylinder, like a fouled plug, every so often during the ride. What southern engineering does anybody do for the rain problem? | ||

Best thing I've found is don't ride in the rain,2nd. best would be a rain sock. It won't keep it all out and it will cause you to run rich,but it will get you home on both cylinders.Plus it stores nicely under your seat. | ||

Doesnt sound right to me I've ran in the rain for multiple hours at a time on my S3 with the race filter with no problems Possible that something else was wrong? | ||

I tried to rule out anything else, Seemed to only happen during the heavy rain, If it was a short probably would have continued when it was soaked, but it cleared up after a few miles and a couple twists of the throttle.. Would prefer NOT to ride in the rain but sometimes you have no choice. | ||

I never have rain issues, and that's with the CF hamcan on an S2, S1W, M2 and M2L. I'd take a close look at your plug wires, sounds like an ignition short to me. Dielectric grease in the boots and make sure they aren't rubbing through anywhere. | ||

My X1 with forcewinder will hiccup a little on the highway in a good heavy rain. Even with the silly rain sock thing. I doubt it causes harm. Just remember to wash+reoil the K&N after being rinsed out like that. | ||

Thanks everyone for the assistance. Will take a look at the plug wires and add dielectric to boot, heck probably need to change plugs anyway. Been lazy lately just riding. As seldom as it's been raining here lately probably wont ever be a problem again.  | ||

Wiring on a plug, down under to cam cover, connecting to the voltage reg on my bike rusted and got intermittent in wet weather riding. I did the above trying to resolve the issue but eventually a mechanic friend located the problem sniffing around my bike one day when I was stuck at work. It's a bullet connector with rubber boots on both sides, should keep most moisture out, but keeps it in too. Just in case it's not coming from ignition or spark plug wires or what not. I didn't like the race intake, or Forcewinder for riding in the rain. I've often considered putting the stock intake back on just to deal with poor weather riding conditions. My XB seems to have fixed that problem though. | ||

Sorry for the little thread jack here: Does anyone know what the OD is of the Forcewinder or the clamp area of the filter? I noticed my filter was cracked and I need to order another one...but I'm at work. | ||

I got creative this weekend and hosed the heck out of the bikes electrics, Looks like it's a bad front plug wire. I just love simple fixes.. Thanks for everyones input. | ||
