so i was at the parts store, looking for seafoam, no luck, ended up with lucas fuel additive. added some in the parking lot, to a half a tank full, and it started to miss and pop through the intake. i am hoping this goes away with some more fuel through it,..

With Lucas products I put a dab behind each ear in the morning. Drives the chicks wild. Coincidentally my hearing has improved 50%.

Do your self a favor send them out for cleaning! I sent mine out, even after the additive they were still dirty. It is only about a $100 bucks, but worth every penny.

gmaan03 - my 02 m2 misses (from the intake) and pops (out the exhaust-or so it sounds) - what are you referring to cleaning when you say 'send them out for cleaning'?

also - should I run Lucas through it to see if that helps it first?

Thanks

FI additive cleaners can loosen particles that can pass thru injector filter screens and actually clog the injectors worse (well, at least it is that way with Bosch injectors). I'd either take them out for pro cleaning, or replace.

In regards to the OP, how much did you add? I've never used the Lucas stuff, but I would imagine that the "dosage" defined needs to be considered when using on a motorcycle.

I've never really heard any "true" success stories of running bottled injector cleaner actually solving issues with injectors. IMHO, these cleaners would probably be best suited as an additive to ensure the injectors stay clean; although, I've never bothered with this, considering the cost of the additive.

I have, however, had pretty good success with sending out fuel injectors for cleaning and balancing. But, if you can buy new ones for nearly the same price as cleaning, that would be your best bet. Then, keep the old ones as spares that can be sent out for cleaning in the future.

Based on the small amount added, it could just be a coincidence that the problem occurred after adding the additive. Try diluting it, but the problem may be elsewhere.

My bike was running lean, popping, and just running crappy. The ejectors were removed and sent out for a cleaning service, a company in So. Cal. one was flowing at 90 and the other was at 120 CC/min. After cleaning they were both flowing at 220 cc/min Put them in and it ran sweet.

I've used Techron fuel additive in my Porsche as that is the additive Porsche approves.

I always put it in the tank before the oil change, run the tank empty and then change the oil. I do so as there has been some though that some extra "crap" might end up in the crankcase.

I don't know if that helps but it seems it might at least prevent.

There's one way to clean which I have proof.
It's called "Italian tune-up". What it means is that you drive the car as hard as you can, high revs WOT (wide open throttle) etc.

You can't do it on street, at least here in US but I do it when I go to race track. That's about 2 hrs of driving the car as hard and fast as possible and after that, the car runs great. I don't lug in a traffic so it always gets driven properly but still.

Maybe some of us who track their Buells can chime in, I'm pretty sure they have no dirty injector (or valve) issues.

"I've used Techron fuel additive..."

Same here for the last 20 years or so and have never had any FI or valve related issues.
And +1 on the "Italian tune-up" routine...

My 2001 S3T has been running poorly lately and today after replacing intake seals I saw no improvement, but DID get a code 23 indicating that the front fuel injector is not firing. I still have to double check wiring, etc, but I suspect that the injector has finally failed. I have checked American Sport Bike's site and they do not list injectors, and I KNOW H-D dealers won't have them (the assholes). Does anyone know the Bosch number for these injectors or what car they may cross reference to? I REALLY need help locating these. My hope is that they are a fairly common Bosch part and reasonably priced at the local AutoZone.
