I own a 1125, and a xb12, now I have a tuber!

Its a 2000 x1, 245 out of 800. It has just under 3k on the odometer. Very clean for 11 years old. I was told the original owner was a rather LARGE man, and bought it as his first bike. He then burnt the clutch up in less then 3000 miles. Gave up on it, and it sat for many years. The kid I bought it from picked it up when he was doing some work at the guys house about 6 months ago. Other then the clutch, it has a broken header stud, and the exhaust needs to be rewelded where the header meets the pipe. I assume the stud broke and he didnt even know, which then made the pipe vibrate excessively and break.

The kid, freshened up all the fluids, plugs, battery, ect. She starts right up, idles nice. Just has nothing on the clutch.
I am hoping its just the clutch, and not a transmission problem. But for $2k, I couldnt pass it up. He had it posted on CL a while ago, then relisted it for 2800 on the 18th. I texted him last night, and he was really itching to sell. So I offered $2k, he said $2500. I said $2k and I will pick it up in the morning. Well I got a text around midnight saying he was in.
Picked it up at 8am this morning. Talk about a quick sale!

Heres how she looks, bone stock, very nice shape for being so neglected. Just gotta lose the pouches and show off that sexy tube frame :-)

Thanks MBsween, losing the plastics is high on the priority list.
Need to decide where to go with the intake first.
And before that I want to get the clutch and exhaust issues worked out.

Going to open up the primary tomorrow.

Is a clutch spring removal too really necessary? I have done a few clutch's before, but never on a v-twin.

Why don't you just try to adjust the clutch first, just to see. If the adjustment screw inside the cover is turned tight it'll act like you always have the clutch pulled in, like you have no clutch at all.

If you don't have a service manual, get one right away.

Yes, the clutch tool is necessary if you want to get the pack apart. You can make one yourself, the thread that describes how to make one shouldn't be hard to find it was reposted about a week or two ago.

Great find! A forcewinder intake will make that tube frame show up great. I love the red with stripes.

Hard to imagine someone burning up a clutch in 3,000 miles. I'm with Jim2.

yes tried to adjust it, no dice. I have a xb, so I am familiar with the procedure.

Took the whole basket apart, everything looked fine and was up to spec. The bike looks brand new inside. Put the pack back in, and all of the sudden I have clutch...
WTF? I am stumped. Still need to put the primary back on and make sure it will disengage still.
Can the clutch get stuck open from sitting too long? I am stumped.
Have my fingers crossed it will be ok once I get back together.
Will let you know in a hour or so ; )

Very nice bike. Congratulations. Not related to the clutch but make sure your drive belt is not tight. It should feel very loose as compared to your XB.

Thanks guys, seems like the clutch is good now. Put the primary back on and it shifts through the gears. I need to get the header stud and muffler fixed before I can take a ride. Hopefully tomorrow.

I will check the belt. I ordered a service manual Monday, should be here tomorrow.

love the red stripe specials... love the blue stripe specials even more. Those 2 are my personal favorites. Great looking bike!
