When you do it, let me know how long it took to remove the tail. If they are good you can have it blasted with plastic pellets or Dry Ice. It will be much less abusive than sand blasting. I have had motorcycle cases and aluminum rims blasted this way and they came out great, besides sand or glass beads get into every nook and cranny! The other option, if you are going to have it re-powder coated, let the powder coating company prepare the surface, they prefer to do it them self’s.   Brinnutz Posted on Tuesday, May 03, 2011 - 12:15 am:        I'm in the process of the same thing as a matter of fact. I've got it halfway sanded down, then going to paint it to match the rest of the bike. The only thing I haven't completely figured out is how I'm going to trim the rear piece since it's epoxied on. I might just cut all of the visible sides off and leave the back piece for the light to mount to and use my fender eliminator from the other tail I have.   Blue_pipe Posted on Tuesday, May 03, 2011 - 09:23 am:        I was talking to a friend of mine that painted my truck. He said that he knows a guy that owns an auto paint supply house. He might have something that can strip the clear without harming the texture. I just want to reclear it and keep it stock as possible..   Oldog Posted on Tuesday, May 03, 2011 - 11:23 am:        sand blast using soda or shells, the aluminum may be porus but it works ok I had it done and re finished it with hammer tone silver as the porus aluminum could not be polished out and clear coated with powder coat.
