The powdercoat on my tail is looking pretty ragged lately. I tested a very small section with some 2000 grit wet sandpaper and it just sort of made it hazy and it didn't polish out. I might try some Novus next.

Anyone here have any ideas about touching up the clear powdercoat? If it can't be done, would there be any harm in removing the powdercoat just around the brushed, most visible surface to polish the metal?

I'm not sure if that was written clearly enough. In any case, I don't have the time right now to take the tail off and do a full polish.

You can bring the shine back with rubbing compound.
