The bike started with no problem after sitting for over four months and sucking on the Tender. Rode it for a couple of hours and parked it. Hooked to the Tender as I always do after a ride. Two days later and the Tender light is flashing and the battery shows 6.68 volts. Never seen a battery fail like that before. It was purchased on 9/15/2005.
Just wanted to share yet another weird failure mode.

"6 YEARS", hay that's 4 years more than what it was supposed to last !!!

For 2 years warranty "PLUS" BATTERY TENDER equals 6 years ...

You got your monies worth !!!

Switch to an interstate brand battery. Far better and at only $75 if you can find one around. Or if you know someone who is a interstate battery dealer have them order you one.

My battery just died sunday morning, it was the original. one more month and it would have been 10 years old.

The dealer just quoted me $130 for a new battery! Sounds awfully high. I thought it was more like $105.
I wonder if I had asked for a Sportster I would have been given a cheaper replacement. I'll have to check and see.
Prey, you got a great deal. The Interstate site shows a couple and they're in the $120 range. Besides the closest dealer is 30 miles away.

Deka 14ETX or bust. All other conventional lead cell batteries are inferior.

The Odyssey looks like the mother of all batteries and even pricier than the HD...
Deka seems reasonable and I'll probably save ~$20 but hey they have the nicest guy behind the counter and their Buell mechanics are top notch at Long Branch HD here in New Joisey...
Besides, I'm not sure if I can tolerate the site of my "sick" X1 for another few days...
We'll see....

I have an odyssey battery and be sure u charge it with 6 amps and not 2 amps like the other motorcycle batteries. It wouldn't start my bike with a full charge so I went and bought one from hd the day after the price went up and spent 145. Then the guy at odyssey told me the way to charge it.
