There's no "correct" way to run the breathers, only better ways than others, lol.

If you're using a stock air cleaner and want to keep the stock breather set up, the hoses just go into the air cleaner and then into the front of the carb to send the gasses into the engine to get burned.

If you want something better, run them outside the air cleaner and into a catch can.

Thread them in about a 1/2" and then tighten down the locknut.

Thats good advice from your Dad. I'm old enough to remember when if you didn't know how to work on a bike you simply didn't ride very far, and all motorcyclists waved at each other when they passed on the highway.

It's always a good idea to know how those twin air-fuel bombs going off every 1/100th of a second inches below your nads are managing to propel you forward.

The breather bolts thread all the way in. No lock nut on any of mine.
The hole in the head is quite deep.
If you have the stock M2 bolts, one will be straight and one a 90 degree if memory serves. It's been a while....
If needed, I can dig up my old ones and post some pics.

If you install XB rocker covers with the BLAST type PVC Valves, all these breather hose problems go away ...

Then all you have to figure out is where to mount the catch container ...
