All are neat bikes.

M2, S3, and S1 were more production line bikes. The S2 were more of a hand made type machine.

M2. One of the best motorcycles made. Buell produced a lot of these bikes. Pretty comfortable. Naked bike, more price oriented. Standard motorcycle.
Regular forks

S3. The sport touring model. Fairing, bags, etc.
Thunderstorm motor had lightened flywheels, free flowing heads, etc. Inverted forks

S1. The Hot rod. Nothing but seat wheels and motor.
Higher horsepower model, lightened flywheels, etc. Inverted forks

S2. the first model produced with Hd and Buell together. A real classic. Side plates on each side made changing out the isolators easier. The motor was basically a sportster motor, with better breathing, carb, exhaust, etc. Pretty much hand made type bike.
Inverted forks.

An S1.

S2

My M2, but with S3 tank, fairing, etc.

Another S2

I love carburetors, most problems are generally easy to fix and compared to FI, less expensive. You don't a bunch of expensive test equipment and you don't have to run back to the dealer everytime you change something related to the power plant. What's not to love.

The X1 is the only one I've ridden, so of course I love the hell out of it.

If I had to choose a different tuber, I would go for the S1 I think. It strikes me as pure practicality. Purpose built, if you will.

Time to go shopping. Look around, find one you can check out, give it a shot. It's really hard to choose between them, as each has its own strong points.

Later S3 or any X1 for fuel injection. All others are carb'ed.

Jump in, the water's fine!

which ever you buy, you will stand out from the crowd. we usually have more people hanging around our bikes, that 50,000 custom bikes.

I love the way you can see the motor, and how they are just wheels, and motors.

Plus, you can pick up some tubers, pretty cheap.

26k miles sounds ok, at least it was ridden, and hopefully taken care of with regular maintenance during its life. Sometimes you find lower mile tubers that have sat for a while, gummed up gas, dried out isolators, tires, gaskets and seals, needs a thorough going over - a process, by the way, that is totally worth it, IMHO. There are a few updates you can do "while you are in there." Don Casto's site is really good for an overview of upgrades, adjustments, etc.

Look through the Bikes for sale classified section here, at the old listings, and it will give you a good idea of pricing. Sometimes you get a great deal, sometimes someone knows what he has, really values it, and won't let it go for cheap. If that bike is really taken care of, though, I mean seriously well cared-for, then it can be worth spending up front and riding from day one with total confidence. Ask here, once you find something interesting.

I have 45,000 miles on my M2.

Usually the head rocker box gaskets start to leak. Cheap paper ones come stock. Replace with top of the line aftermarket ones.

Chain tensioner on the primary. You probably need to check it and see if it had the newer stronger upgrade.

Keep the oil changed frequently. Keep air in the tires.

Keep the primary chain adjusted.

I love the torque and sound of mine. REX

"Jump in, the water's fine!"

+1!

I learned to ride a motorcycle so I could one day ride a Buell.

My only discrimination was that I did not want a Blast. *Any* of the others would have made me grin ear to ear, no doubt. I finally ended up with a fair priced, well maintained, and slightly modified '99 X1. It is more than I ever dreamed of.

Bottom line. Find a fair price for a Buell and make it your own. No regrets.

I finally got a blue carbon fiber tank cover and i traded a Raw CF chin spoiler for a pristine blue carbon fiber chin spoiler. Oh yeah love the carbon fiber!!!!

I was looking for an XB, but found my X1 and never regretted it. It is the best bike I have ever owned in 20 years of owning bikes.

Recently did 1200 miles in a weekend on the M2, and I can say that it is as good if not slightly more comfortable touring machine than even my Uly was. My butt and legs were much more comfortable than on my Uly.

I think the M2 seat is more comfortable even.

I'd prefer the looks and amenities of an X1, but I am enjoying my M2 more and more. Mine is creeping up on 30,000 miles.

It wasn't loved or cared for before I got it. I am considering a complete tear down and refresh of the bike. The motor seems to run strong. Trying to decide if I need to get into it or not.

The M2 is the closest thing to a 1969 Chevelle I can think of.

for those on the forum who know what a 69 chevelle is, that is a pretty good analogy...it also brings back some great hooligan memories (and 29cents/gallon gas)

S1 is my favorite as it is carbed. But.... X1 solved some goofy issues:
X1 tanks do not bubble
Rear Peg Carriers unbolt
Spring Rider pegs

I have one of each, and everything being equal? To me? The S1 rider position feels better.

Not much experience with M2 or S3. The tubers are stupid fun!

Is the s1 close to the same ride as my xb12r?

More like it than, say, an inline 4 Japanese sportbike. I mean, air-cooled, v-twin 1200 cc power plant. But different frame type, different massing (gas tank vs. tank in frame, etc). The R has a sense of fairing, the S1 is nekkid.

But the 1200 cc v-twin will get you the low-down, lower-revving torquey experience. I don't own an R, so I can't be more specific, except that an xb in general shares some things with a tuber, but they are different bikes.

It's been said here before that both tubers and XB's are tools used to carve corners. The difference is that the tuber is a hammer and the XB is a scalpel.

Or carve a corner with a hammer... How about a butcher knife instead?

RELAX, J/K!!!! There are enough variations on tubers to suite just about anyone. I am sure whichever one you choose will bring you miles of smiles!!
