ill see what hes up to and says...

as for using the XB stem... its tapered so i will need the spacer that holds the bearing and relocates it. My idea it to make a new stem that is not tapered, or tapered up farther to allow the use of a spacer, but keep the bearing in its original location.

I guess you could maybe weld in the taper on the XB stem and turn it as well.... but the XB triple with the XB stem will still be longer then the X1 triples with the XB stem, because the X1 lower triple is flat and the XB curves down. My custom stem will account for that as well.

Also, dont know if any of you care, but remember, if you are going to keep a tuber triple the XBS front end doesnt bolt on... i modded my tube triple to do just that though.

Purpony, I'd be interested in a stem as well, I haven't done much on my conversion for the last month or so. I think I like the idea of using the tuber triples better anyway. On your last comment what mod were you talking about with the triple, was it the counterboring?

i was referring to, if you want to use an XBS headlight/gauge/flyscreen which bolts directly onto the XB triple... if you want to use that with a tuber triple it can be done (i did it) but you need to mod the tuber triples.

Okay so I think I had an epiphany about this conversion. It won't jump all the hurdles, but should help with sourcing parts. So we know that not all XBs had 54 mm uppers, right? Yet they all use the same axle and wheel and brake. So the distance between the center or the forks in the triples is the same. The same can be said with the tube frame bikes, when comparing M2 triples to any other tuber. The M2 and S1/S3/X1 triples were all of the same casting, but different size holes bored for the forks. SO, next time I do this conversion on an S2 (in which case the the '03/'04 XB forks are too short to reasonably use even though I used them last time), I'm going to look for a set of Uly forks and a set of M2 triple trees, and measure the diameter of the forks at the locations I need the triples to clamp, and then have a good machinist precisely bore the triples to the size I need. That's my plan anyway.

Then again, the very lowered look did look REALLY good IMHO. Maybe I could just trim the lower part of the fairing for more clearance. It only needed another 3/4" or so...

Yea, that was something I thought I brought up earlier, the only problem being it would be incredibly easy to screw up the triple rake differential per fork leg.

As for the bike looking lower, the 190/55 i'm running already makes my 120/70 look tiney and falling forward-ish.

As for forks! I finally found some thanks to Mees!!

Now I need a XB steering stem for mock up after the forks arrive. I am totally dying to use my ztl2 caliper... omgosh....
