That's just off the charts cool . . . you both scored GREAT deals. I feel like I'm back in 1996 looking at those bikes.

Amen. Those are gorgeous bikes. I put about 120 miles on my S1W this afternoon and aside from needing to repack the race muffler (huh?? whatdja say??) I have to say, the tubers are truly amazing machines. I've been riding the S2 all week since it has bags and the Uly is still in FL..somewhere...but took the hooligan to work today because I needed the stress relief. You guys are gonna love those bikes. Court - when did the S1/S1W rear hugger go from black to CF? I thought all the OEM ones were CF? Hmm... |

They were ALL made of carbon fiber. The 1996 was coated with black Vinylon as we weren't that good at finishing carbon fiber and the green cast from the 1995 S2 carbon didn't look that cool. |

aha. Also 'splains the black-coated hugger that was on my S2 when I got it (since replaced with a Buell CF greenie hugger, to match the air cleaner ) |

From another thread
quote:The photo bike lacked some of the detail that was likely on the finished product. Most notably the rearranged side stand as is evident on the High Voltage Yellow one of the cover of the July issue of Cycle World. Funnier story was the next year . . . the M2 shock wasn't ready and when they shot the ad campaign they used an S1 rear shock. Of course, the S1 had the remote rebound adjustment, the M2 didn't. I'm sitting at the factory one day and a guy called. . . "hey, I got the wrong rear shock". I explained to him that the M2 didn't have the remote rebound. He told me "sure it does, I'm looking at the catalog". Hahahahaha. . he was right! I sent him an S1 shock and never heard a word from another soul about it.

Does the center mount stand center the balance so the bike is able to be rotated ? |

When I saw these bikes yesterday it was like going back in time. Now where did I leave my phone booth. Truly beautiful machines and to think they were 20 minutes from my house all this time. |

>>>> it was like going back in time. Don't make me feel old . . . there were less than 100 Buells in floating around and only about 3 of the thousands of folks here on Badweb had ever heard of Buell. I'd been riding one for 7 years . . . great way to tour construction jobs each week.

So, this shop is in PA...where? And the one on LI...where? Do we know how much $ they went for? Wow, Erik was so un-grey back then. And you Court! (Message edited by two_seasons on March 20, 2011) |

can I ask the story behind this 2 brand new 15 years old bikes???? how did it come they have almost no mileage on them? and how did you find them? and id I can dare to ask, how much did they go for? I'm impressed to see such pristine bikes. I wonder if they have more... |

I was born old . . . Hahahaha . . you guys had me digging around and I just found the famous "S1 wheelie t-shirt" that was done with that red S1. At the time . . it was a ball . . but you would NEVER get that past legal now . . imagine the liability of a manufacturer selling a t-shirt showing it's bike doing a wheelie ! ! |

One thing I really like about Buell is that the company's history is so tangible. Every other manufacturer has been in business so long that it's hard to imagine yourself in their shoes when they were first trying to make and sell motorcycles. It's less personal. When I look at my bike, or any Buell, I get the feeling the designers were obsessed with motorcycles. When I look at other types of bikes, I feel like the people are simply trying to make their products appeal to a specific audience. |

>>One thing I really like about Buell is that the company's history is so tangible. That's for sure. . . pieces of it . . as Mike can attest.. . are scattered all over my basement. Try as I may it continues to accumulate faster than I can dispatch it. I've got piles of stuff that was tried and dismissed . . books of motorcycles that didn't complete the development phase and all sorts of what I lovingly refer to as crud. I love looking at these 1995-1997 photos. |

JP - I got your note about the S2 fairing bags...but can't for the life of me figure out where the part numbers went. Maybe someone on here can help out? I'm lost without parts lookup... |
