I picked up a 99 X1 and wanted to shorten the front signal stems, took signals off and wanted to know if anyone had cut these down and cut new threads once the spacers are removed? Or just pick up some rear signals and be done. Any opinions welcome.

After further pondering, messing with the stock stems is not worth it. Gonna check the cycle junkyard in the AM where I've picked up some X1 parts. Otherwise I'll be hitting up American Sport Bike.

Don't know if they are the same but on my cyclone I took the spacers out and then bolted them right back on! Looks good! Nice and tight to the bike but still visable!

They must be different, these have the stem running from the signal thru the spacer threaded at both ends.

I don't know if you are looking for a nice (cheap) little project, but here's what I did.

I bought a set of (4) LED carbon fiber look signals off of ebay, item #150474417961, for $17.49 shipped. Once I received the signals, I painted them with a transparent (tint) paint and clearcoat. They turned out great. You would need to tint them because the stock carbon fiber look is cheezy to say the least. The tint gives it the depth.

Total investment for me was the cost of the signals since I tint auto/bike parts for a hobby. I'm sure you can pick up a can of spray tint and clear for ~$5 at a local auto parts store.

The nice part about these LED signals is that they flash really bright so the tint really doesn't impede their visibility.

BTW, these signals are less than half the length of the stock signals. I can provide pics if anyone is interested.

well if its threaded on both ends you could take a hack saw or bench grinder and shorten the bolt and then put a nut on the end, paint it black and no one would notice!
